Mischief V: Woodward Dream Cruise Chapter

[DUSTIN WORLES]

Brian (Prova4re) has been trying to get me and Dado up the Woodward Dream cruise in Detroit for the last couple of years. The cruise is an event that attracts 2 million people. It takes place on this strip called Woodward Ave and it's suppose to be for classic domestic cars. I tried to cover the event last year but there was that freak blackout that crippled the area so I stayed home. We were planning on taking Dado's M3 to the cruise this year but it wasn't ready to go. A part that we needed for the car never came so we drove Dado's Audi A4 wagon 8 hours to Detroit.

We met up with a few of our friends from the Players Run. Ed (yellow Carrera) flew in from Orlando, Adrian (800hp 911 Turbo) flew in from San Francisco, Ross (996 Turbo) drove down from Toronto, and Reza flew in from DC. Brian and Nick live in the Detroit area.

We all stayed in Dr. Michael's mansion right outside of Detroit. Dr. Michael and his fiance Audrey took the green Lambo Murci on this year's Players Run. They have a nice collection of automobiles. Besides the Murci, they have a orange Gallardo, a bk SL 55 AMG with 20" black HREs, a Bentley T-24 (one of 24 in the world), and a ML 55 AMG. To our surprise, Michael and Audrey allowed us to drive all of their fine automobiles during the time that we were there. Holy crap, a dream come true!

Friday Night:

We get to Detroit around 6pm. We meet everyone for dinner at a restaurant and then we drive to Dr. Michael's house. I thought that we would take it easy the rest of the night but I was wrong. Audrey suggests that we go cruising and calls up her car buddies. A couple cars show up at the house including a high powered Supra and a 800hp Camaro. Audrey gives us the keys to their cars (Dado and I get the SL55) and we all go racing. We raced around some of the local streets, dragging at every green light. Dado and I lined up at one light with Reza driving the Murci, and Brian in his NSX. The light turned green and off we went. The Lambo and SL fought for first place and the NSX was no where to be found. As the Lambo started pulling on the SL around 130mph, Dado and I heard this loud rumbling exhaust sound and this yellow blur shoot by both cars. It was the 800hp Camaro. Holy shit that thing was fast. As the Camaro slowly disappeared in front of us we slowed down to wait for the rest of the pack. A half of mile up the road, we see cop lights. Then we see the Camaro being pulled over. We had only been on the road for 5 minutes and we already had trouble with the police!

We waited for the Camaro at a local car hangout. It just had rained that night so the turn out sucked. The Camaro showed up about 20 minutes later and the driver got no ticket! The police never clocked him. They just heard all the cars racing and pulled him over. Lucky ass.

At 11pm, we hit the highways and raced some more. We headed towards Woodward to check if anyone was still cruising. There were a few cars but the police closed down the cruising at 10pm. Reza blocks this one intersection to talk to me and Dado. A cop rolls up and asks Reza for license and registration. Dado and I roll out. Reza gets a ticket for blocking a intersection and the cop takes his license away. Dickhead.

Saturday:

We start the morning with pictures and then all head over to the cruise. We take the 2 Lambos, the Bentley, the SL55, a twin-turbo NSX, and a SL500.

In the first 2 minutes of turning onto Woodward Ave, Audrey gets pulled over in her Gallardo. The cop lets her off with a warning for speeding thank god.

We get back onto Woodward Ave. It takes us 2 hours to go a couple of blocks. I was hoping to get booed by the locals for not having domestic cars but most of them cheered as we came rolling through. After 20mins. into the cruise we all start getting bored and began to entertain the crowds along the roads: Reza kept jumping out of the Bentley and locking himself in the trunk. Brian ran around the cruise in the pig mask. We would all switch cars every five minutes. There was one point where there was no one in the Bentley. It sat there blocking traffic. I ran up to every car turning the seat warmers on. Adrian was fanning himself with one hundred dollar bills like he was in some rap video. We pretended the Murci ran out of gas so we were pushing it down the strip with the doors open. Reza jumped in the Gallardo and tried to do a donut in the road and smacked the curb, scratching the wheel. It was total chaos. The crowds loved us.

Later that night, Dado gets ahold of the Gallardo and we race around with Adrian in the Murci. We get the Gallardo to 170mph with little effort. Such a great sounding piece of machinery. The orange and blue leather is so bad ass. The Gallardo is my new favorite car. The Murci is also an awesome car too but the Gallardo just seemed faster because it's smaller and lighter. I love the Murci's doors but I kept hitting my head and my shins on them.

Sunday:

We go to Dr. Michael's lake house in the afternoon and take a break from racing around. We jet ski for a few hours and then jump back into the cars.

During the weekend, Dr. Michael and Audrey told us horror stories about how unreliable their Bentley is. Actually, this was their second Bentley. The first one was a lemon so Bentley bought it back. The second one still has problems and one time left Audrey stranded in the middle of a intersection. They have complained about their Bentley so much that the local Bentley dealership wrote them a letter banning them from going there. We developed a plan to get Bentley back. We took the Bentley to the Bentley dealership and we planned on doing a stand-still burnout in front of it. But the parking lot was empty and so we had Dado whip a few donuts instead. Holy crap, Dado laid the thickest, darkest strips of rubber that I have ever seen! It was one of the coolest things that I have ever taped. So damn funny. To see that much weight in motion was so bad ass. Adrian sitting on the window sill while the car was doing donuts was classic.

We raced around once more that night. I really didn't drive at all over the weekend because I was so busy filming. It was my turn to drive something. I chose the Gallardo. I had the best time of my life driving that car. The power, the sound of the engine, the looks...simply the best car that I have ever driven... well, besides my MX6. I want one so damn bad now.

Monday:

We unfortunately had to leave and get back to our normal lives. Dr. Michael and Audrey showed us one of the best weekends of our lives. Michael asked us if we would come up again and film their new Maybach when they trade in the Bentley. I said "hell ya!". I wanted to stay there until they bought the Maybach but we had to leave. Until next year...

you know what... I say you guys just drive the BEntley to California, see how far you can go. When you guys break down in the middle of nowhere, I'll meet you up in my Benz, and I'll trade you a fully working and modded benz for the non working Bentley. Then I'll tow it back to L.A. and sell it to unsuspecting people for 50% off retail, pocket the money, buy me another Benz and put a down payment on a little condo by the beach w/ the rest.

Do you remember the story about the American kid who spray painted some of their property. He got caught and they beat his ass with a Bamboo stick (seriously). They had him bent over and the man who had to beat him had like a 1.5" thick, 3' long piece of Bamboo. They said that when he hit the boy, small pieces of flesh came off.

yea, me and my friends passed all the cameras at 140-150kph (thats as fast as the rental could go) and the cameras didnt flash or anything. And we didnt pay for parking at 3 places, we just drove over the bumps that try to stop you.

What a fantastic garage of automobiles! I am just glad to see that I am not the only one that drives their exotics hard. With all of those toys, have you looked at the SL65 AMG yet? It would be right at home with the rest of your cars.

Yeah, the SL65 is NICE. I am very happy with the 55 though. How do you like yours?

The car is incredible. I have about 2000 miles on it now and it keeps getting better every day. I had an SL55 before, the cars are similar but the V12 pulls like a freight train. I have to say the one thing I miss is the sound of the V8 in the SL55. The V12 sounds incredible when you start it and at high RPM but the V8 has the rumble at idle that the V12 will never have.

The SL65 makes for a great daily driver!

Damn close to it though! It doesn't take 200mph, in my opinion, to outrun a police CAR. A radio is a different story though, as some of these guys on here know.

If I owned any of the various cars that the two of you owned, I wouldn't care too much about breaking 200mph... I'd rest assured that I looked good going as fast as it'd go. They're what I consider to be exotic cars. What's the retail on those cars? More than I can afford, pal... lmao :D

There is nothing like the feeling of going 220+mph on a freeway. Nothing like it.. As you watch cars you have passed by so fast there are a mear blur in a review mirror that has no purpose because it not about whats behind you but what is 3 miles in front of you that counts. Audrey you know you or Dr. M can ride with me any day of the week. Just make sure the policys are all paid in full and you hold on, well the 5 point belts will hold you in but hold on to your sanity.. Love the rush and pushing the card as far as it will go.
