Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Mike and I be a youngin hehe, i'm 20. I'm not good at these intro threads, I've posted many on many other forums, so i'll just try a new way. You ask questions if at all curious, and i'll answer em! Other than that, here's a few pics of my car. Now before anyone falls under judgement, its not an import, and its definately not a car thats usually modded alot, but its definately falling into the modding scene, and I've had it for roughly 3 years now, but unfortunately considering getting rid of it. Regardless, I still think she's beautiful and I love taking pictures of her so here's some of my best work! The pictures are a little outdated, as since then i've changed to bigger profile tires (everyone criticized me for my wheel gap, but I live in MICHIGAN, I am not lowering my car, no thank you)

A photoshop I did, my car doesn't look like that in winter
http://members.aol.com/mikent256/winter.jpg
It looks like this:

After this winter, i've yet alot of maintenance and work to do as far as getting the car back to working order. Sorta the reason why I wanna get rid of it and get something like an import, I really don't wanna mod unless theres alot of capabilities. Mostly all my mods are show, and theres hardly any go mods with GM's v6 they have in the Grand Am. But I am pulling 164whp with Cold Air Intake and Borla catback exhaust. Stock is 140 whp/175 hp at the crank.
Anyways, enjoy! And "holla" to my michigan members! Ready for this summer season? I mean, Construction/Orange barrel season??

welcome to Teck!
car looks nice :]
Welcome to Teck. You and I have a lot of similarities. We're both 20, have domestics, have mostly show mods, put steelies on our car in the winter, and want to get rid of their car because of maintenance problems. lol

Thanks Mandy!
Tonkpils that totally sounds like me! I love my car, but wish it was RWD and could be made faster! Unfortunately I have a lot of petty issues I have to deal with, and I HAVE to drive my car in the winter. So it totally sounds like we're in the same boat! I COULD supercharge my car for $3900 + labor, but i'd only be getting 284hp (its a significant increase, but still..) and that's getting to dangerous levels on the GM trannies they put in Grand Am's. It just almost seems like a lost cause, and I wish the car was more accessible to mods, cause I love the shape and size of my car. Now i've been on the market for something that's RWD, PRACTICAL, able to be daily driven (and in snow). The car's i've looked at just don't fit at all.
Nissan 350z - beautiful car, too many problems for me, i go on my350z.com forums as well, too many EXPENSIVE problems (Unfortunately, due to me having a budget, I don't have that baller status like others)
Infiniti G35 Coupe - beautiful, has a back seat, WAY too expensive..
Infiniti G35 Sedan - meh..its hot, but..i'm not sure I want a 4 door again.
Pontiac GTO - Hell the way GM's looking we may not have em anymore, and I don't feel like falling susceptible to another marketing scheme with high incentives and big problems (*cough* grand am's *cough*)
Mazda RX-8 - This car has really worn on me, but impossible to drive or even start in the winter without flooding the engine, and its a huge loss in torque and hardly any HP.
Now--as a small disclaimer, please don't take offense if you own any of the above stated vehicles, I'm just stating my own developed criticisms. My car's been reliable, but I want something faster that still gets decent gas mileage and can be driven year round, my work requires it.
And i'm NOT getting a damn Mustang like everyone in Michigan does lol, since GM dropped the ball discontinuing the F-Body Trans Ams and Camaros.
Thanks Slim, Driveway, and Rey! I appreciate the compliments!! The first picture is the picture that won my spot on GrandAmGT.com's calendar last year!

Yea, my internals suck for sure. Whatever for the money not bad. Once you get into modding it alot though everything will start breaking. LS1s are really where it is at.

Thanks alot 1080!
Yeah the LA1 v6 3.4 liter in the Grand Am is a very weak push-rod. Considering the 3.8 liter V6 in the Grand Prix's are capable of pushing 400 horsepower with significant modding. Grand Am engines are capable of something, but after investing WAY more than its worth. Which is why I considered just supercharging it, but oh well, we'll see.
The decisions are hard cause I have so little to pay for left on the car, and I don't know if I should keep it or not.

Man thank you! Why drop it? Its going to give me absolute hell in Michigan, with the roads, with winter, and with the constant driving i'll be doing this year. I'm telling you, its a BIA to try and jack the car up to swap out my rims and tires, it'll be even harder to work on the damn thing when its lower. But I HAVE considered getting KYB strut OEM replacements and Eibach's since Eibach's have the lowest drop level of an inch.

Welcome, decent car for what you have to work with. For the tire issue, have you considered a taller tire at all?

Thanks for the welcomes guys!
As a matter of fact, I have already installed bigger tires, I just haven't taken any nice pictures with them as of yet.
The wheels and tires were given to me, as a trade for my stock rims from a friend who was trading in a lease on their grand am and needed stock equipment. Stock rims for Grand Ams are 225/50/16. The tires he had on the aftermarket (Konig Five-O's) rims were 225/40/17. Too low of a profile, he was supposed to go 45 series. So when I got my Yokohama AVS E100 tires, I got them a taller series and wider since the rims are 17x8 and the 225 series were BARELY fitting the rim. So now I have 235/45/17 tires.

Lordy, after 7 hours of work the car is back to normal!
Started at 3:30 p.m., did a full wash, dry, full clay-bar, full wash again, dry, full wax, wheel install, chin spoiler re-install and I definately know i have the best gf in the world because she helped me throughout the entire day with waxing and drying while I was doing other things, helped speed up the process from what it normally takes. And I STILL have to rain-x the windows and clean the interior. My job is never done! But i'm sorer than a mother effer.

Very funny!
That is by far the famous question: "Will you part it out?" It really doesn't look like it considering to get the closest to my owed amount, they're only willing to buy it off of me as is at the stealership. We'll see though, if god forbid I decided to keep the car as a winter beater, then i'd definately part it out.

I had a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged) but wrecked it about 5 weeks ago and now i'm sporting an 05 Lexus IS300. 215 hp rwd and sure is fun to drive! Not as expensive as the BMW 3 series or an Infinity G35 and it's got an engine that can be modded like crazy.
SilverEcstasy
03-30-2005, 02:00 PM
I started to look into the IS300's and I just don't know, the engine is capable of alot, just with alot of work--story of my life with the grand am.
Thanks VWchick!! Although non functional, the scoops are open for air cooling! And its made of lightweight composite.
