Hey guys! Maybe one of you can answer my query since a lot of you have experience with, how do you say, "aggressive driving" LOL. Anyway, is it possible to pop a tire off a rim hooking a really violent uturn. And I mean a harsh fishtail, like the kinda of Uturn a girl with a RWD car might make.

Someone told me that and scared me into taking slow uturns, which has dramatically decreased the fun factor :(

Well doing turns like that decreases the tire pressure I believe. As long as you aren't doing multiple manuevers like that back to back, the tire pressure shouldn't get low enough to wear the tire will become unbeaded from the rim. I am not too sure though. Dustin, Dado, any of u guys got thoughts on this?

You should be okay, I always rev and drop the clutch on U-Turns with no traffic around, fun times so long as you can control it.

yea, its possible, not verly likely, but possible. my opinion though, never really heard of this happening.

i agree 100% with ProMSL, it could happin, but most likely wont, just don't do it if your tire pressure is low.

in a car anything is possible .. the negitive / positive g forces on a tires can either blow you inside tire off or dissmount your outside tire towards the suspension.

I have did it before. Me and some friend were destroying a Geo Metro a while ago and the rear right tire came off the rim. I guess this was due to excessive turning hard at 40mph, The tire had deflated so that may also factor into why it came off. We pushed it alot and it was a junker. So... I dont think you should worry to much as long as your not pushing your car to it's peak while doing a U-turn.

or you can knock your engine from latteral excelleration.. ask leiter about that one.. Harsh..

When you pull a turn like that it decreases PSI in the tire.
If you do it a few times, the amount of pressure put on the
sidewall of an under-inflated tire can result in the tire finding
its way off the rim. Yes it is possible, Highly unlikly, and easier
to do in a higher profile tire.

It is possible to do alot worse doing violent turns.
Just have fun and be safe..

Also highly unlikly, but it could happen .... even more likly if you own an M3 .... I think we've all done the drop the clutch and pull a u-turn, and never really had any damage come out of it, but like they said, make sure you have good tire pressure.

trust me , when body roll comes in to play , your turn hard and excellerating from 60.. you can knock your engine..

Think its still possible with a Boxer engine, where the pistons shoot horizontally instead of vertically??

if your cars not catching traction and your sliding , you could throw one...lol

So the verdict is thats it's possible, but I probably won't be going fast enough or driving hard enough to make it happen?

I'm acting like this is a goal of mine, lol......I want to avoid it at all costs. I was driving home from work thinking about how God awful that would sound!

forget how bad it would sound to hear your rim rolling
on the asphault. Think about this, you just pull out of
the turn, thinking that was a weird sound, when you
see your tire rolling to your right PASSING you! I dont
know about you, but in my books that would be friggin
scary. Thats only becuase I know when I go back to
MB they are going to stick me with a $2500 bill to replace
one rim, one tire, and balance it. [packin]

I got an crazy story for ya that is related to that.

My uncles and their friends are convoying up to Canada for their yearly fishing trip. Well, they get thru the border and they get on the main freeway between Montreal and Toronto. They are running at 70-75 mph when my one uncle looks over and sees one of the tires from my other uncle's truck ahead of him come off the trailer. The tire goes loose and heads away from the truck. So they figure they can stop, get it and be on their way.

Problem is, the tire is rolling so fast, it jumps the guardrail onto the other side of the freeway and disappears in the bumper to bumper traffic rolling in the opposite direction. They call a tow truck, which shows up, puts the boat on its flatbed, and they take it to where they are staying.

Well when they get there, and it comes time to drop the boat into the lake, problems occur. When the flatbed is lowering the boat into the water...the front of the truck tilts up into the air. So all 8 guys had to jump onto the front of the truck to keep it grounded and to get the boat into the water.

Just dont ride it so hard and you will be fine Andrea... lol

Plus with your car the back end is light, your more likely to spin out.

Ange, as far as you go, take the spare out, and put two bags
of cement in there, then put the floorboard back, adn the
spare ontop. I know your history, and its best if you keep a
spare in the car.

MdChevyGuy: That is one crazy story. Trust me I have been
in quite a few situations where we end up trying to hold some
vehicle down (or up in some caseses) to avoid a flipover or
turn over.

It's possible, on lo-pros you're more likely to knock the inside tire off the inside bead because there is less force exerted on the inside bead (due to the wheel usually being more inboard than out) and that's the easiest way to do it on a lo-pro....

Even in offroading, the only way I've knocked a bead off was to do rally turns at 6PSI with 44x18.5x15s, going 30mph ;) Can you say, lots of sidewall? ;)

agreed. a friend of mine did that to his brand new s15 last year. guess he was trying to dorifto or something.

The only thing I've ever done while taking hard corners is blowing a valve stem out.

I guess it just depends on the quality or tires, the forces the car makes, the speed, things like that. Just be CAREFUL everyone.

Thanks people!! Maybe I'll just stick to my AWD Talon for manuevers like that, to be on the safe side :p

Just watch out for me when I have my truck    (haha don't worry, I've had one before, it's allll good!)

very possible thing to happen, don't try any hairpins with station wagon tires on your car.
