just tohught id could be useful
Have you tried asking other forums where there's more Australian members with the right knowledge for your situation?
I don't know much about it, but you can appeal tickets over here as well, as some of my mates have done before. I personally haven't experienced it, as I haven't had a ticket, ever. But I have had some close encounters. I hope my luck doesn't run out!

It's all about proof.
If there is any holes in the proof delivered by the convicting officer, there's a pretty good chance you can get away with a traffic offence. EG, if a cop says you were doing 120 in a 100 zone, but they didn't have a radar gun, they really have no proof and would have to have estimated your speed.
The contingencies against these types of "prove it bitch!" court cases are different in each state.
Most of it is based on legislation, but i'm sure if your lawyer tried hard enough he could convince the judge to implement case law and find you not guilty if you could dig up a similar case in which the defendant (you) had won.
