View Full Version : VW R32 vs. a few SRT-4s

Well, for a bit I was doubting my R32's performance compared to some of the other cars out there, but my hopes were reassured when I raced a few SRT-4s this weekend. It sucks not remembering to bring the camera, but here is the play-by-play.
Round 1: My R32 (intake, exhaust, motor-mount) v. SRT-4 (stock)
Did two from a stop and one from a second gear roll. From a stop, I pulled about 2 cars and he was never able to catch back. I figured then to try from a roll to make it more even. Right from the get-go I pull about 1 car on him and he wasn't able to come back. To say I was shocked is an understatement.
Round 2: My R32 v. Stage 2 SRT-4
Well, a little revenge for you SRT-4 boys and girls here. ;) Saw this guy on the highway and we went from a third gear roll and he only pulled about 1 car length on me. I knew when I saw it, that it wasn't stock and you could really hear the turbo on this one. Talked to him for a bit at a stop light and it was confirmed that it was a stage 2. Even though I lost, I still stayed pace with him and I was completely impressed with my car. Seems it isn't as slow as I thought it was.

For $30,000US I would expect a bit more grunt than an R32 has...
Dodge's numbers are a bit conservative as many have seen, and according to C&D it will do the launch to 60 basically the same as an R32 - This means it's about driver skill.
Also, from a roll: The R32 would have a minor advantage due to no turbo, however it'd be minimal, again, driver skill would mean advantage.
Regardless, interesting.

i plan on keeping this POS volvo for a couple years and then looking into one of those cars.
i was reading someplace that VW is comming out with a R36 in 2007, i think it said 300hp.

Yeah, but 300HP at $40,000 = gaytown.
And don't be shocked if that's how much it costs either.

I will agree that for $30k, the R32 should have more power and VW is definately over pricing the new R36. I was really surprised that I was able to run with SRT-4s because the difference in HP is noticeable.
Another car to add to the ever growing list () is the Cross Fire. I ran into him on the highway as we were both turning onto it from a stoplight. We both got on the straight and he punched. I did the same and pulled by him at the top of second (which we started in). Now, only if the R32 had some forced induction...

I'm a V8 guy and I've never really like the 'pocket rocket' cars........ until I drove an R32. Man those things can MOVE! [ohmy] The salesguy and I were ripping up some backroads when we nearly got owned by the police! :lol2:

Yeah, yeah, stop making me jealous. ;)
The other day, some kid at my school got a mr-2 turbo and I saw him on the street. He tried to pull away from me and I followed him and as soon as the adjacent lane opened up, I pulled past him. Then, from third gear, I smoked him. From what I could tell he had an intake, exhaust, and maybe a boost controller. The turbo was really loud.
Also ran into a modded GS-T spyder. All I have to say is 300+whp. That car was mean.

Man i'm getting jealous, I can't find hardly anyone to race me :( i guess its something to do with the loud exhaust and front mount but nobody will try, but R32 are nice but alittle expensive for me, almost bought a SRT4 but got my car instead almost the same price :)

Ha, yeah I get the same. It's hard to find good races where I am. There are a lot of fast cars, but they don't come out until the weather gets nice. Plus, there are a lot of ricers where I am. A lot of people don't race me because they either don't know what I drive or they know and get scared. I think my car will get a lot more attention when I have a wastegate going off in a few months. :dancingna

oh yeah forgot to mention any kills, haven't raced in my tsi yet, but in a stock srt4, i have beat svt cobra(interstate), gst and gsx eclipse(street & track) modded is300, grand prix gtp, b18 swapped crx, modded integra gsr, cant really think of anymore, cant go wrong with a 20k dollar car that puts that much power to the ground

Yeah 03/04's put down 390 hp right?.......I can never get anyone to race me either, so anyone who has the same luck as i do, don't feel bad. Lots of ricers where i'm from also....& lots of "all show no go" kinda cars. There's a kid that lives next door to me that has a 2nd gen Eclipse GST automatic that's stock. I'd like to see what he can do one day. Though i am partial to the Dodge SRT-4, good kill :glare:

Those Srt-4's are quick and have alot of potential likewith some small modifications it can run 12's(watch the video on limewire they got lots of SRT vid's, like theres the srt beating a S2000, Rx7, and other)

Yeah, there are a few near me that have like a stage 2 and are running high 12's on slicks. They can be quick with relatively little money. Good car for power per dollar. I'd like to run a stage 1 now with my car the way it sits. I think now I could pull on a stage 1.
