to deselect the windows and license plate, hold Alt and use the selection tool and that will deselect the areas you want. Hold alt, trace area and connect lines. This will deselect. To reselect, hold Shift and then you can reselect and area or add to a selected area.
Use this for plates, lights, windwos, moldings, etc.
