I have been wanting a tablet forever but didn't want to spend a fortune one. Im not overly impressed with the ipads. I was waiting for ipad 2 but when i saw the specs when it was released i was pretty disappointed. So immediately i looked at android. After a few weeks of research i endedup buying a nook color ereader. The cool thing with this is it runs on android so when i got it i rooted it and now im running froyo 2.2. This thing is awesome and shockingly fast. Im also running a bootable version of honeycomb which is only on the new samsung $800. For$ 250 this is amazing for anyone wanting a great tablet without the huge sticker price.

Only negatives no camera, bluetooth or gps. I have an iphone for all of that stuff though.

Sweet! Josh did the same, actually.

I've thought about doing it, but my only reason for wanting a tablet was for the eReader apps lol, my phone is too small to read a book. It would be wasted effort in rooting it.

Nice!

Honeycomb is also on the new Xoom and LG G-Slate (very lame name I know). I wasnt impressed with the iPad2 enough to get rid of my iPad, and after feeling how much a Xoom weighed I wasnt exactly keen on that thing either.

I went with the iPad 2 (black 64gb 3G). I already have an original iPad In The house, my wife and kids use that one primarily, so I wanted one for me only. The iPad 2 is the best tablet on the market. Period. Like steve said, everything else is just a copy cat attempt.

I'm not a fanboy, I've just realized that they make the best stuff and have embraced that

Show me something better, and I'l buy that instead. Haven't seen yet.

Why is everyone who thinks Apple makes a quality product a fanboy? Apple's shit is overpriced, overrated, and trendy, but some of it's still arguably the best thing out there (ipad 2).

the ipad 2 is overpriced?

If the ipad 2 would've had a retina display for the price id have bought it. Instead im waiting for the 3rd gen to hopefully have what the second version imo should've had already.

Apple is good stuff but i think the prices are a little higher. Not much but a bit overpriced. Android is a tweakers paradise though. The things i can do to my homescreen alone are far above anything apple has. More customization options and u can program anything u want on it really. Ill be rocking my iphone for generations to come though.

the cost of a 'retina' display would have increased the cost of the ipad big time. compare the screen on the ipad 2 to a tab or the xoom. the xoom is bigger and has a higher resolution, and amazingly the ipad 2 still looks nicer. There's a lot of competition, but no one can deliver the quality of device that apple can for the price. $499 to start isn't bad, topping out at the $830 64GB 3G version is a lot of coin for a tablet, but if like me it has begun to completely offset my laptop usage and become an indispensable part of my day, it's totally worth it. plus, if you use it for work or school, you can write it off

Oh, I'll be getting the 3rd generation too. This one will goto the wife, the wife's will become my oldest daughter's. And I can't wait for the iPhone 5

Becasue they don't. The iPhone 4 was already behind the Evo 4g when it was released. Not to mention how terribly restrictive thier stock products are. Apple does everything the can to stop 3rd party developments while OS's like Android encourage it. It's why i will always choose android over Apple. Not to mention that with limitless amounts of companies able to make devices, Android products are always going to be a set ahead where as the iPhone/iPad is on a finite development schedule.

I used to embrace that same mentality. The iPhone and iPad have superior applications, the closed marketplace ensures that most of the apps are as high quality as possible. 3rd party support is 100x what the android devices have. And the EVO has a bigger screen and a 4G connection (which sucks down battery like nothing else, and was only available in a few cities).. what else makes it better? Android? I'll agree to disagree on that one. And just because a shit load of devices are coming out doesn't make the OS any better. If anything it's going to make the apps harder to develop.

I used to love the ridiculously customizable aspect of windows mobile and android, now it's just annoying. Having a device that simply works (and really well at that) is more important to me now. I dont want to search forums on how to make my phone do everything anymore, I don't want to flash roms every other day, I don't want to go through 50 menus to change simple settings..

Open source is great and all, but the fact that devs have to worry about hundreds of different devices with different hardware combinations, different software revisions, and different assortments of sensors where in iOS, they have about 3 or 4 different combinations to really worry about. This really opens iOS up to high quality apps.

Don't get me wrong, I liked and still do like Android, I just don't think it offers as good of an overall experience. Android is flashy and makes the iOS interface look very simple, but at the same time, iOS makes Android look insanely slow and buggy.

To each his own, but Apple's hardware is much nicer than anything that HTC or Motorola can put out anymore. Samsung comes in a close 2nd IMO. Android vs. iOS is an argument that can go on forever, but in the end, I'll take the higher quality apps over an OS that allows any application under the sun into its market without any quality checks or strict standards. Sure iOS is missing some stuff that Android marketplace offers (and vice versa), but do I really need a soundboard from The Hangover?

BTW, how's the Netflix and Hulu streaming on that android phone? Hmm? oh... that's right, unless you buy a new phone with an upcoming Qualcomm chipset, you're SOL in that regard.

Look, fanboys come in all shapes and sizes, and most of them only have one true perspective on the topic. I've owned a device that ran every major smartphone OS over the past few years (6 phones last year alone), and I'll be sticking with iPhone (and the iPad) from now on until something better comes along.

For phones ill be iPhone for a very very long time. The tablet I have is a bit slower than an iPad for sure. I can't argue that but then again, it costs half as much. I got it just to read books. The fact it has android is just a plus for me. I love programming and writing code so I'm in love with the thing right now but the apple controlled apps ensure much better quality. Ice downloaded quite a few apps already on the android already that don't support the screen size which wouldn't be a factor on apple. I love the home screen options with the live interactive backgrounds and further customization options. I wish apple had that as well. Gives it a cooler custom feel to me.

if anyone is curious, the reason the ipad2 didnt have a retina display is because noone was capable of manufacturing an LCD of that size with the resolution required (too many pixels in too small of a screen).

That said, they're working on it. Rumor has the iPad 3 coming out in the fall (september/october-ish), hopefully with retina.

The iPad2 didnt have enough extras to require me to leave my iPad for it. That, and I felt I found an awesome case for my iPad and didnt want to have to go find a new one for the thinner iPad2, lol.

I can understand wanting something less involved. However i'm not sure what you're talking about with the quality of the apps, anything i've picked up on Android has worked just as well on iOS. The one app i do think is better on iOS is the facebook app. It's kind of confusing as to why they are crawling along with the development of it.

As for Hulu, hulu streams perfectly fine on my phone, only issue i have with it is when my 3g is slow. Also if you use a the standard rom you don't have to update that often. Even with a 3rd party ROM if you have a GOOD developer, you don't have to update every release, and even if you want to it's ever 4 months tops and most developers have application auto-restore now so your phone is right where you left off whether you had to wipe data or not.

As for multiple hardware developers, yes it does add more variables to the market to account for, however having competition between manufacturers only accelerates the progression of the phones as they are constantly being pushed to out do their competitors.

Also as for Apple's closed market what is quite horrible about it is the fact that even though they control the apps that go on to thier market, there is a really large fraud issue within it.

Developers make legitimate apps, then hack people's iTunes accounts and buy their own apps to get the money from the persons credit card. When you become a victim of this Apple has no phone line to call, and does not even have an easily accessible email address for dealing with the situation.

Once you do get into contact with them they aren't very helpful at all. For example when the above happened to me, i needed to know the location or zip code of their billing office so i would be able file a police report with the local department there as my bank requested me to do before they would be able to continue with the fraud refund process.

Apple refused to give me that info unless i got a Subpoena from the court ordering them to do so. I then asked them to just cancel my account, to which his response was "We can't because you still have a -33.00 balance" (my bank blocked those charges). Finally my bank just went through with those steps and process for me. However it's really the main reason why i will never buy, support, or recommend an Apple product ever again.

Of course it can, but Android isn't a closed market. Where Apple is you think they would have better control over that and not say 400 people were effected when it was actually thousands, and then come out to say that they've stopped it when they hadn't.

It's the means available to deal with it. I realize it can happen, but the way Apple handles it is just ridiculous. I could call up to get questions answered immediately about an apple device, but you want help with a Fraud issue and you cant reach a single person directly about it?

Also all the same Apps that they bought, were still available 3 weeks after this happened to me. Seems they should have been taken down as soon as there was an issue
