Just wanted to say "hey" to you all. I just joined here a second ago and never really did any lurking here. Just kinda made my way here via ViperAlley.com & MBWorld.org. Anyway, hope to get to know you all and waste a lot of time here at the Teck Forum.

Nice cars.

I know that there's no way in hell you paid for all that shit you got under the hood of those cars by doing tune-ups and selling groceries. Whatever it is you're in on, I want in on it too

tune-ups & groceries? no.

I presently work as a Regional Operations Manager in the Automotive Industry. Before I had a "real" job while in college, I started my own business in the Sports Memorabilia/Card Industry when I was 18 (I'm 23 now). Most people are suprised how well you can do if you know what's up. Unfortunatly, I don't have much time anymore to do the Sports Mem./Card thing.

Welcome, and nice cars. So explain to us some more about your job?

Basically (in the least amount of words possible), our company is a specialized service company in Automotive Quality. We work for the large automotive companies such as DC, Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, etc. but also do work for their suppliers such as Delphi, Lear, Johnson Controls, etc.

They call us up (we have 14 locations inside the US and one in Canada) if they have a quality issue with a part (could be anything such as headliners, door handles, lights, etc) and we go in and sort through the stock they have either putting the bad parts aside or fixing them, whatever they would like.

It's a great people business and it's in the auto industry, doesn't get much better. I am a Regional Manager for St. Louis, MO, Nashville, IL, Canton, MS, and Travel (where we don't have a location but are requested to work at). There are two other Reg. Mgrs. that have the other 11 locations split between them.

Hope that helps...

Wow that's pretty awesome, how does one go about getting into that? Sounds something i'd like to do. I do Network Engineering, but ... not really enough interaction with people if you ask me.

Well, it would help if you lived in/near a place with an automotive plant or suppliers to a larger plant. Our hourly workers are nothing to get excited about and I wouldn't wish them upon anyone (they are 40 year-old people that act like they're 16). As for getting into management, I think that most companies look for experience in auto industry first. I was just lucky enough to know a couple of the "higher ups" and got an interview that way. It's definetly been a learning experience these past 1 1/2 years and it's all about meeting people and putting out fires.
