View Full Version : Need help burning an MP3 cd
I've tried 3 different programs (Windows Media Player, CDBurnerXP, Nero) and I also tried just dragging the files to a writable folder on the D drive. Every time, it starts burning and then part way through I get an error message (see screenshot below). I'm on the slowest burning speed possible. I've also tried multiple CD's that I know are blank. I'm using Memorex CD-R's, 52X, 700MB if that helps. I have not tried burning a different brand of disks because I didn't want to spend the money on other CD-R's without knowing if that's actually the problem. I've also tried multiple different files so I know it's not a corrupt file.
Anyone have any ideas of how to figure out how to fix the problem?

Do you have an odd file within the group? Its weird that you keep getting that error. Have you tried using a different computer/burner?
Haven't tried a different computer. My mom's going to try tonight. I think my burner may be done.

That sucks.
I just ordered an external blu-ray drive for my laptop. Im hoping for no delays and it gets here before I leave next weekend.
i doubt it's your burner, spend the 5 bucks on like a 3 pack of CD's and try that

It could easily be my burner. Computers these days aren't built to last. The computer is 3 years old, and my hard drive died last year so I guess it's about time for more parts to start breaking and failing.

what are the filetypes you are trying to burn to the CD?
.mp3? .wav? .mp4?
MP3s. I just had my mom burn the CD for me. So I'm positive that my CD burner is done.

Sometimes burners are wierd like that. I had a stack of 50 cheap Memorex CD-Rs cause I use the factory 6-disc changer in my Mustang. I just make regular music CDs with them. One day out of the blue it gave me the exact same problem you're having. I had about 20 discs left and I tried burning random things to about 10 of them. I thought the same thing: My burner is shot. But I found some Sony CD-Rs in my desk I forgot I had, popped one in, and it worked just fine. So I just ditched the Memorex CDs and I buy Sony or HP discs from now on.

So CD burners can just decide they want to stop working on a certain CD?
If that is the case, I'm going to beat the shit out of my computer for being an emo bipolar bitch.

Its a sign that they are becoming "self-aware" [paranoid]

That may turn out to be more expensive than buying a new CD burner [paranoid]

FUKKEN SKYNET!!
Ok so I'm buying a new burner, does this one seem ok? I really have no idea what I'm doing lol. Are burners pretty basic in terms of compatibility, size/shape, etc?

Did you try burning at a lower level (not x52) sometimes your CD burner doesn't support a burn speed so you have to lower it from x52 to x48, I recently did that (today).

Hey guy, why don't you try reading the first post before posting in the thread? :squint:
So here's an update...I bought a new dvd burner, but the IDE cable I have doesn't have enough length to connect to the dvd burner and then the motherboard (I have a couple friends coming to my house this weekend that can double check that for me).
But I also ended up buying an mp3 player off woot.com last week so now I don't really need to burn mp3 cd's anymore because my car has an auxiliary input lol.
