Hello, I'm new to these forums, but here goes. Me and my buddy were on our way to the local Sonoco for gas, and my buddy was like a half mile ahead of me cause I got stuck at a stop sign. I drive a crappy old 89 Prelude Si with an intake, headers and a muffler, so basically I drive a stock ass old Prelude. Finally a passing lane opened up and I took off to cath my friend, and I passed a mid-90's camaro z28 on the way that was just cruising with traffic. Right after I passed him he changed lanes behind me like a tough guy and took off behind me, I was cruising at like 100 to catch my friend, so I wasn't worried about him, I was going to let him fly by me and let that be the end of it. I figured there's no way I could beat it anyway. I caught up to my friend, camaro still on my ass, and I pulled into the right lane in front of my friend (Who drives a slightly modded 2000 Mitsu Mirage). I gave the guy in the Camaro a thumbs up for having a somewhat quick car and I waited for him to fly by, but he just pulled up next to me and stayed side by side. He pulled up on me a little so I hit the gas to even up with him, and I got on the gas too hard and jumped ahead of him a bit(I was in third gear at about 4000). There The camaro took off, but I couldn't cause there was a car in front of me so I changed lanes as soon as he passed and took off with him. To my complete surprise, I pretty much stayed on his ass through fourth gear. He pulled away so slowly, maybe he got 10 feet on me all through out fourth gear. He pulled on me a little bit harder, but not much more in fifth. I quit about half way through fifth because 1. I couldn't take the turn that was coming up as fast as he could (14 inch wheels with crappy all season tires) and because I had to turn off that road soon anyway. I lost with no excuses, but I had no idea that I could even keep up with something like that. Are z28's really that slow? I was unimpressed. I just got my Prelude a few weeks ago, and it is substantially faster than my last car (91 honda CRX). The CRX topped at 128 mph and the Prelude tops at 140 mph at 7000 rpm in fifth. I guess I just gave big american v8's too much credit. It made my day keeping up with him though.

when i used to drive the stick 528i.. cameros were like only a car lenght if that ahead of me...and i was basicly stock, only thing i really knew how to do was downshift correctly into my powerband and blast off.... its a good thing to know when ur power is to downshift... like on my brothers swapped accord, he has a h22 inthere now.. and like his new ecu when hes going a certain rpm in a gear, the check engine light will come and meaning that he can downshift at that point and get the maximum amount of power from that gear....

I think the Camaro Z28 has 320 HP and hits about 160 mph, stock. Something like that.

z28 were underrated by the factory they were actually the same horsepower as the c5 but claimed 320hp to help the vette sales. Something has me thinking this was a V6 camero.

I use to have a 94 Z28 and that was the biggest piece of shit I have ever had. It would break down everytime I would race it. At 100mph they vibrate like crazy and sound like they are wide open. On the other hand my 88 Prelude SI is smooth at 140mph I run the Dunlop 195/50/15 on Enkei racing rims. Need to lower it again to get rid of that air lift feeling lol. My Prelude would actually outrun the Z28 but not on takeoff power because the Z28 has 300 some foot lbs torque compared to preludes 100 something lol. But I would go flying by my friend at 140mph when he was stuck at 100:P I'll never own another Ford or Chevy I'll leave them for the Rednecks to fix daily.

I drove my friends camaro what a piece of shit. But my rx7 was by far one of the smoothest cars i have ever driven. 150 and flew like a dream. My GTI is pretty smooth too but I havent unleashed it yer.

My brothers firend had a 94 Camaro, I think it was a Z28 but im not positibe. Anyways he had it all done up (the motor), and it would do 260km/h and blow the doors off almost anything around here, and it sounded damn mean. Then he crashed it into the side of a train at a crossing and killed himself and 3 of his friends (not my brother though!). They wern't sure what the reason for the crash was at first, but then on the road they saw thick black skidmarks 75 meters long leading up to the train! Thats crazy.

I tested out some new tires today but when I seen the price I was like:( . The tire is a Firestone F1 Indy 500 195/50/15 $367. I ended up going with a cheaper Firestone tire called the Fusion ZR1 195/50/15. Got rid of the Dunlops they run as shitty as a BF Goodrich. Kuhmo is even worse with the sidewall blemishes and bubbles. Wow they gave me a $15 discount for letting them have the $200 set of tires lol. The Fusion tire has a much better look and to me grip the road better than the Dunlop and BF Goodrich do. The sidewall looks nicer also. While I was at it I got a front and rear end alignment and also got them to fix my frame on the frame machine. I never got one after I wrecked the Prelude about 3 years ago because I was late for work. I jumpped a hill going over a 100 mph see a big black dog so like a dummy I slammed on my breaks. I was already bounching and then spun around backwards. I hit the dog which busted my lower grill and smacked the bank with all four sides of my car. I also took out one of those telephone distribution boxes for an entire neighborhood, a mail box and some flowers in a mulch flower bed on the side of a bank. The curve came out of nowhere lol. I actually am lucky to be alive I guess. I could have met someone on the wrong side of the raod going backwards at about 100 mph. It also smashed my rear tail lights out, smashed my 3A Racing stainless steel muffler I had just paid over $300 for and well to put a long story short it tore every part of the body up but the roof that holds the moon roof in. The funny thing was my Prelude was still running and I had no flat tires so I got that bitch back on the road and got the hell out of there. The next day there was a REWARD sign for $7,500 hanging on the telephone pole. I just laughed and said to my self better remove these european tail lights as soon as possible so I did. I ordered them off ebay and they looked like Supra taillights. I went back to stock. 210,000 miles later she still runs as smooth as can be and burns nor leaks any oil. The engine has never been bored out I just run Vavoline 50 weight racing oil in the warm weather and Castrol 20w50 high mileage in the 2 to 3 months winter time. Prelude's are quite tuff.

Nah it was definately a v8, stock dual exhaust and black Z28 markings all over it. I didn't win, no excuses, but I kept up quite well.

my friend has a 98 z28 and it gos. Hes got a dif rear end thats all. He brought it up to 145 and said he wont do it again because he felt like he was floating and he was very lucky because the road he was on had a stop sign somwhere he didnt know. he could only get down to 90 by the time he got to it. He said he missed a car by inches because he couldnt stop quick enough and had to run the stop sign. Only races on the track now....

Alot of people aren't the best drivers. A stock LT1 z28 in good running condition is Well capable of a low 13 second quater mile time. I've driven an older b20 prelude, and it's not a turd but definately not as fast as a z28. It's also impossible to know if that guy was actually getting on it or not. He could have been at say half or 3/4 throttle. His car also could have been neglected and shy on power output. There's really too many factors in a race like that to determine how fast a car really is.
I know I've been driving my truck before, and when I mildly accelerate from a stoplight, I will occasionally have a civic or two gun it like I'm racing. I have this one friend in particular who has a civic ex with boltons, otherwise stock. We were on the hiway once, and we were messing around. I was in the lead, but I was only going at maybe half throttle because there was a car ahead of me. I could hear my friend's cold air screaming, and he stayed behind me in the same spot. When we got to where we were going, he said "Dude, I hung right with you when you got on it". I said "nah man, I wasn't getting on it cause there was a car in front of me", and hes like "Whatever, I heard your exhaust". haha, if Juice is reading this, he knows exactly who I'm talking about..

Anywho, what I'm really trying to say is that there are too many factors that have an affect on a car's performance in any given situation. There are people running low 13's stock in a z28, yet there are some running high 14's with lots of mods. It all depends on the driver and condition of the car, so don't let a bad driver or run down motor lead you to have a skewed view on what a car is really capable of. :) :)

Oh I'm the last person so overestimate what my car is capable of. I hate that. But I am pretty sure he was on it because he downshifted and the car was damn loud. If I had to guess, based on the average driver in this area, I'd say the motor was neglected and beaten and that's the only explaination. Like I said in the original post, in no way should my car run with one of those. As for me, I was all out, rippin through all my gears and he ever-so-slowly pulled away. My car's loud as hell and I could hear his exhaust over mine, and he was definately rippin through the gears too. After 110 he started to pull away a bit more, no chance for me to catch up at that point. But like I said my turn was approaching and even if I would have followed him, I would have had to slow down for a left turn that he took at like 130 easy with his wide-ass tires. By next week I'm hoping to get a G-Tech Pro in my hands, so that I can see what my old little prelude is really doing when I hit the gas. I hate false numbers and estimates. My car has headers, no cat and a 2 inch exhaust built for it running through a fartcan, and an intake. That's it. I don't claim power from them, I just like to say that the car is stock but it sounds cool. I hate when somebody asks me what I have done and I'm like "not much" and they're like well the muffler gives you at least 10 hp. :moron: My prelude is said to have 138 hp stock and 130 lb-ft of torque. I'd be happy to put 110 hp to the wheels.
