Ive been looking around for a while and i was wonderin what i wanted for a first car (only 15) ive been watching tons of street racing and drifting vids such as all the mischiefs and grip videos. I really like the Toyota Tureno or the HACHI ROKU and i was wondering if they were good or dependable ? I know there mostly used for drifting but are the still good on the streets or in the rain without losing control without u wanting it to ? Someone help me out and thanks

Welcome n00b.

#1. Try searching the internet. Its this new thing called a "search engine" where you just type in something and it pops up somewhat relevant answers!

#2. There is no such thing as a Toyota Trueno/Levin in the US. Its the 83-early model year 87 Toyota Corolla GT-S. AE86 chassis code is the same (hachi roku is japanese for eight six).

#3. OK, I'm done being a dick. AE86s can be decent cars, but in almost every case you get overcharged for them because of things like INITIAL D and drifting. Don't expect to grab one in good condition for less than $3K unless some clueless old lady sells hers. Then, you must remember that these cars are like 20 years old, older than you. You'll probably sink at least another $1500 into getting the car up to factory specs. Then start modifying, which ain't cheap either.

As for being bad in the rain... I'd say hell no, but you have to drive it like any other car. Sure if you stab the throttle in the wet, going around a corner, the rear end will step out. The USDM Corolla GT-S's had around 115 hp stock, no big monster there. The only reasons they are any good for anything are good weight distribution, light weight chassis, and a solid rear axle.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've researched. A lot. I almost bought 2 in the past year but decided against it. Just find a nice S13 240SX, the car will be in better condition and will probably cost less to maintain. If you're stuck on a GT-S, check out Club4AG (http://www.club4ag.com).

the thing about the ae86 is like others said its a 20 year old car, its hard to find any let one ones in good condition. if you rlooking for a rwd drift car, go for a 240sx, rx7. things like that

What can I say, INITIAL D didn't seem right to me so I searched for an answer... I've almost bought 3 of these babies, and I like to research things a LOT before I purchase.

I almost bought this for $2000 last year from a guy at school. Excellent condition, no rust, fresh paint, clutch and LSD.... I regret not getting it.

yeah i have been looking at getting 1 too. I have had a ae92 and now a ae101 and thought about taking a step back to the previous gen's. decided not too though. just like everyone else has said, a good 1 is hard to find for cheap, i would go with a FC or a mkIII supra or a AW11 MR2. they do have almost equal 50/50 weight distribution and from what i have heard break loose w/ little effort. they are slow as hell though in stock form and b/c they are old the susp. is usually worn to hell and u have tons of body roll. If they have the stock 4AGE then they are really starting to get high in milage and lots of them have rust spots.

those cars are piles of shit. if you want attention and pretend to be takumi in your lawnmower disguised as a car then go ahead and waste teh cash.

i'd suggest buying a car that's not worthless. and decide what you want to do. drifting isnt racing. if you just want to "drift", then buy any RWD car and stay the fuck away from me. if you want to race, then buy a RWD or AWD car you like and have fun.

Wow, thanks that sure was... helpful? If you're gonna bitch about a car or type of entertainment (I won't go as far as to call drifting a sport) then at least make your own "I haterz on the dorifto" thread.

While 83-87 Corolla GT-Ss are very overpriced these days, they aren't worthless. If it runs and drives OK, its not worthless. Your post however, is.

Welcome!

the AE86 is not a "piece of shit" it is a dependable drift car that can double as a track car if you want. make sure it is a GTS not SR5 since the GTS comes with a 4AGE(twin cam) engine and the SR5 comes with a 4AC weaker engine, single cam(72hp stock).

A friend of mine is into toyotas and this is what ive learned...good luck finding the AE86...ur best bet is finding a celica GTS circa 84 a friend back home's borther has it...looks the same but its a 2.4ltr engine...also look into the Celica Supra...they are good too...my friends got an AE92 and he is in the midst of getting a 92-95 jdm 4AGZE supercharge Mr2 engine into it...should be nice but still...if u can find it ur gonna be waisting alot of money getting rid of the rust and then modding it there isnt much out there cept if u have a friend in japan...like was said before a 240 is ur best bet for a drift car if u like toyota look for older celicas...same rwd bigger engine.....but ull still have the same problem as the corolla ...no parts.

get a celica all-trac!...u wont be disappointed :)

i'd say just screw getting a AE86 and get a 240...way cheaper to buy and mod, way more worth the money, and they are easier to find...not to mention they look a lot cooler imo..btw welcome
