Ready for this? No, seriously -- are you strapped in? The same reliable "mole" that enabled ArsTechnica to correctly call the Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle and the new Halo 3 / Fable 2 bundle (among other items) has come forward with convincing evidence that a UMD-less PSP is indeed on the table for an E3 launch. Truthfully, we'd be more shocked if Sony didn't announce such a product, with the download-only release of Patapon 2 being a telltale sign that something was up. We're told that the so-called PSP-Go! will be debuting in LA next week, but that a slimmer, trimmer PlayStation 3 likely won't. The reason? Sony's waiting for its current stock of PS3 consoles to dwindle, after which it intends to refill channel partners with the physically fit edition that we peeked just over a week ago. We'll be live at the expo to give the low-down on this as it happens, but suffice it to say, buying a bulky PS3 over the next few months will likely morph into a regrettable decision.

I saw this on the PS forums, I don't think it's legit. The original system just came out what, 2 years ago? I don't see Sony developing a slimmer version so soon, and wtf...it's not even that bulky lol.

I stand corrected...compared to this ^^ the original system is bulky lol. Still don't think it's legit though. But holy hell that thing is sexy and shiny. I just took a glance at my ps3 and said to myself "god that thing looks dated already"

Those pics were floating around Engadget and other sites for weeks now. It just wasnt for sure yet. Even my link isnt etched in stone. I hate waiting and so doen Engadget, lol.

I don't have any confinement issued where my ps3 is so I'm probably going to turn the other cheek when/if sony releases a new ps3. It would have to have some super duper alien technology for me to want to buy it. Although I wouldn't mind Wireless N connectivity and backwards compatibility for EVERY ps1/2 title. We'll see.

Didn't the slimmer version of the ps2 have overheating issues because the lack of a fan?

I upgraded my HDD in my PS3, so I wont be switching anytime soon.

slim ps3 won't happen until ps4 is out new psp not till holiday 09 the psp go is a software update not hardware psp go is for go video easier to get movies and you tube etc content on to the psp

The PSP info has been around for a long time. Honestly I'd still rather have one that supports UMD.


Also a slimmer PS3 already?! Fuck Sony how about that downloadable software so I can play my fucking PS2 games first!

We have a PS2 and a PS3 hooked up in the living room. That's ridiculous lol.

they should just release it in beta so the couple of games that they can't get to work with the software wont be complained about cause its beta



what do we need a slimmer ps3 for anyway?? just to spare those few extra cubic inches??

Apparently it's a hardware limitation for the reason that certain models of the ps3 can't play ps2 games. So a software update wouldn't do anything.

Some of them used software emulators. Some were hardware. They could very much do it.

they took the ps2 hardware out so they could cut down the price and used software instead there is no hardware limitation with it i have a 60gb ps3 which has ps1, ps2, and ps3 hardware in it
