It's been a while since I got this car. I've been very slowly bringing it back. It had some rust issues when I first picked it up. Both rocker panels were rusted out and the rear fender wells were just about completely gone. Luckily when I got the car it already had new steel rocker panels in the trunk just waiting to be put on. The car still needs a paint job, and some body, work filling in some dents and what not, but it's miles better than where it started when I first layed eyes on it. Also purchased this car for about $175. Completely Euro, instrument cluster is all km/kmH. had about 37k km on it, if you do the conversion, its about 23,552 miles. I've since doubled that and have had very little problems. Basically oil changes and gas is all the car has been needing. Recently the water pump went and WITH A HUGE thanks to Olli/OpelChaos, the car is the owner of a new water pump and timing belt. Problem is, with the car having never been sold here, there are some parts that I just can't get my hands on from inside the states. Basically anything drivetrain related (gosh that's a lot of stuff) Any body/cosmetic stuff I should be able to pull off the 89 Chevrolet lemans.

This is how it started.

That thing is neat. Is it fast?

Not really, it feels quick. But you can only be so fast with a 8V 2.0l I4 motor ya know?

Current motor specs (c20ne) -115bhp - 125ftlb's. motor is unmodified
One of the best parts about this car(performance wise) is the weight, 2100lbs gas and driver. Full interior, 4dr's,spare, etc the whole nine yards.

Yeah, this little car would be such a beast with about 250-300whp. It handles well too.

The car was imported and I came across it after it was already here. I did not have any problem registering it. I registered it just like any other car. My VIN doesn't register but I have a title for it - Says Opel and everything.

It's kinda of a rare and odd car to have over here. It's a not a "upper level" car over seas by any means, it's actually a cheapo econobox. But I sure do like it. It's a blast to drive

And nice to see a Kadett over there, had a 16v Kadett GSi 88 a few years back, basically the same (except the 16v engine) but a tad shorter and hatchback. They are sure good fun on curvy roads!

Update Oct 1 2009

Progress is slow on this, much slower than I would like but at least there is some progress.

I now have rear disc brakes ! I know pretty much every newer car on the road these days has disc at all 4 corners. The E kadett however did not. It's a pretty substantial upgrade for braking performance in this body car (VX mk2 astra)

I looked into it (because i'm crazy) however, the Tartan Thompson plaid, is very close to what I have but Burberry Plaid is exactly what the pattern is.

I'm sorry, I still think ABS is for people who don't know who to handle a car. lol I actually had such a good brake set-up on my 2002 Cavi that I could make my brakes completely lock up before the ABS had a chance to say "Huh?" :)

And when is the um...nvm, I'll ask that privately. lol

I'll be the first to admit I do need some practice on threshold breaking. Gotta get decent tires and pads, then I can do werk.

It is a VERY good thing to practice in any car, abs or not. I remember watching a show on TV that was all about safe driving, they were teaching an individual how to get to like 80% braking and stay in control. I am pretty sure I've been over the 80% threshold a few times, and maybe not in the safest of places. lol I'm out of practice myself, especially with the Vue.

I'm sure with the tires & pads... you'll be mastering it in no time though!

I shall never forget my West Virginia adventures with this car. Catching air, sideways with a full cooler in the trunk, (probably weighing 10% of the car's weight) I wish we had a camera on our faces.

I was like >.< then O.O

Maybe for a race car but in a DD when you have to panic brake for a kid or something jumping out in to the street when your tired and on you way home from work i would like to be able to just stand on it. especially when there's winter conditions its impossible to brake and swerve nor do you have any decent feel for the threshold in those situations because the amount of grip is seldom the same from day to day, and then the ABS really makes a difference...

Still a great idea to practise it so your confident with what your car can or cant do and maybe when the adrenaline pumps you can ease back on the pedal from the initial planted position and shorten the distance even a tad more

I did do it myself. hardest part is getting the tie rod end and control arm nuts off. Got to be careful with them. Other than that I rented a spring compressor from autozone for 50 bucks. I got all that money back when I returned it a day later.
