Hey guys,
here's my 2008 Saturn SKY Redline:
Their only crappy cellphone pics so far, I need to clean it up again and get some better pics. I got it NEVER titled with 790 miles on it last Saturday. The miles put on it were done using a dealer tag.
Its got a 2.0 Turbo, 260hp 260 lb feet of torque, near 50/50 weight dist. from front to rear. Very quick, plenty of power, etc.
Next plans are to replace the long ass antenna with a shorty. Install a hinge-flip-up front plate, tinting the front fogs yellow, tinting the windows...and removing the emblems for a smooth rear, allso looking at installing the Opel GT front grill...
also GM offers a tune that wont void the warrenty that gives it 290hp in a stage two kit.... looking at that too

yeah man.. but the dealer has to install, so were looking at like 1-1.5k.. kinda pricy for 30hp IMO
I like these cars a ton more than the Pontiac Solstice. Congrats on the new purchase. Those cars a fun to drive and can weave in and out of traffice really easy. Or so I've heard. [paranoid]

I know you from MDSS, I'd go with the GM kit if you care about warranty if not go Hahn Racecraft.
Oh, I might be able to get the GM stage kit at cost though.

WHAT!? NO dont do that... thats retarded... your not even gonna really feel that extra 30hp to justify over a grand. atleast spend it on some sort of creature comfot that you can get your money worth like a nice sound system..
i ripped out my shitty BOSE stereo in my Z and put infinit speakers all around, 2 10'' subs and a nice touch screen in dash that i get my moneys out of every day.
if the factory says your making 260 n 260 your prob more like 230whp and like 230ft/lb tq...
my Z stock dynos at about 243whp with like 240ft/lb tq... i dynod it with just an intake and i made 261whp and 242ft/lb tq for $70 bucks... be smart dude
EDIT: here is what a stock Z does
Max (RW/FW)HP: 241.0 @ 6220 rpms
Max (RW/FW)TQ: 236.5 @ 4810 rpms
Estimated Fly Wheel Horsepower: 287 @ 6220 rpms [assuming 16 % drivetrain loss]
Estimated Fly Wheel Torque: 282 @ 4810 rpms [assuming 16 % drivetrain loss]
and with just my $70 (used) intake i made 261 whp... lol as you can see in my sig i just dyno'd her last week

These numbers are actually pretty damn close! When I dynoed my 02 Cavi the #'s from factory were 145hp, 145tq. On the dyno my #'s were 140hp 145tq. Can't get tooo much closer. lol
I agree though....30hp for $1k+???? No way.

yeah exhaust and intake ought to free up 30 horse power
i'd think at least
then blow the rest on a stereo cuz having premium sound is worth it every time you get in the car

truth talkin, agreed...
I'm digging that exhaust, and theres a guy on my sky forum selling a fugita intake brand new for 100 shipped, that wont void warranty right? cause I could change it back...
but i want the exhaust first kinda, but its like 1000k just for the parts

If the dealer realllllly wants to be picky (and these days they kind of are), then while it wouldn't technically void your warranty, they could make it hell for you trying o fight them if they turn something down. What ever you do, just make sure that it's not toooo gigantic of a hassle to put it back to stock if you're worried about troubles.
You could infact check out K&N for an intake. They're not super special or fancy by any means, but K&N likes to back their products pretty well and in a few(VERY few) cases have actually come to a court case to testify on behalf of the customer... I doubt it would ever happen for me personally...lol...but it's a nice "comfort" thought. Plus. their stuff usually doesn't require any sort of permanent changes to cars.
Exhaust in your car is gonna be loud!! lol Remember you've got a convertible. lol That exhaust sounded pretty mean. ;o)

you can probably get a good deal on one now.. winter is a great time to work a deal on a roadster... I ended up finding a spectacular deal.. its about a 33-34k car, I found a car collector who had an 08 which had never been tagged (dealer tags only) with 800 miles on it. I got it for 24,500, which is cheaper than the stock price on the base SKY.
if you look on autotrader you can get a base SKY with low miles anywhere between 17-20k, the redline is a tad more expensive, but it depends if u want the 90 more horses:hsdance:
PM me if you wanna know more specifics

90 more horses isnt much but thats not what I'm looking at is that a stock turboed car has the potential to go faster for cheaper than a N/A car. Plus the Redline is just more pleasing to the eye that the normal Sky and either Soltice. Good find man

Actually....about the only difference between a Sky and a Sky Redline is 2 things (aside from the engine)...the redline badge and the spoiler. Technically you can even get the spoiler as an add-on from the dealer...so I guess we're still back to two things...lol...power plant and badge. ;)

Great motor, sweet chassis, good looking. I guess the only problem I can find with those cars is the trunk space. There isn't any.
You picked the best color, black is by FAR the best color on those cars.

my friend drove one of those over from work one day. It drives like a go-kart. Small, nimble and quick. One weird thing we got was under slightly heavy we gotta a quite a bit of chatter from ABS. Kinda intrusive, wondering if you got the same thing.

Sky Redline Exterior Differences from Base Model:
black headlight housing as opposed to silver housing
dual exhaust
redline and turbo badging
redline badge on the seats
standard polished/chrome wheels
the spoiler is an option for either edition base or redline
the redline also offers obviously the 2.0turbo, traction control, and a performance suspension... its definately the step up and def worth the money

i didn't get this, but i did recently notice the differences in Traction control, "competative mode" , and off
off, means around any turn i can hit it and slide it completely sideways, competative mode will let me swing it loose but no oversteer needed, and traction control is amazing on it, i can barly get it to chirp around corners with it on....
i need to stop showiing off and boosting everywhere, i'm getting about 20mpg on 93 octane :(...
normally get a tad better, but competative mode is adding :dancingna

Great car bro
Lately I have made my decision for my first car that I am going to buy for myself will be a black Solstice GXP. I love them cars even though most people hate em. I think the sky is alright but I much rather have a Solstice. No offense. Ive even started to look for parts and upgrades but this buy probably wont happen for a couple years.

good decision, glad you picked a kappa over anything else :dancingco
you'll love the engine... check out solsticeforum.com .. its the sister site to the skyroadster.com site I contribute on, many people at least look over both as well. alot of good info. I don't know if you heard but there are a bunch of Tunes out now, and GM has their own tune that doesn't void the warranty.. hit me a PM if you have any other questions about it

??
Oh and also, i manually calculated it i got 18.4 mpg last time.. horrible
this time so far about 25-26... all depends on how i drive it... and taking traction control off and sliding it sideways isn't exactly the best for MPG
