come on, TDC or ryan or one of you other bimmer heads should be able to help a brotha out.
I'm not sure exactly what he has on it right now, but he had an OEM LTW wing on it with carbon fiber risers.
chunky

ok, i found it, like ryan said it's the BMW LTW M3 wing, now i just have to find one cheap, i don't car if it's a knock off, but i don't want to spend $500 on a non CF wing.

I wouldnt think you would want to spend $500 on a wing made of porno and jellybeans....let alone polyurethane or fiberglass or whatever the pos is made out of!!
the LTW wing is 1,200 plus the risers. You could get knock offs for half the price. I sold mine for $1,000 and right now I am looking at some other options. Wingless right now

JESUS CHRIST!!!! well i guess that idea's out of the question.
ok, anyone got any other ideas on a nice clean looking spioler that will provide some downforce for the volvo. NO AMLMINIUM RICER WINGS!!! i want something that can be painted to match, looks nice and is functional. the people on the volvo board are telling me to get a late '80s trans am wing, but i'm affraid if i put an american wing on my car it's going to break down.

I like that style of wing...on a BMW. Not to sure how it'd look on a Volvo. You got pics of your new car?

i'd jsut get a little lip spoiler for it. most wings dont do hardly anything. i heard the subaru sti wing only makes like 30lbs of downforce at 120mph
chunky
12-29-2004, 08:06 PM
the biggest problem with spoilers that are really low to the trune is that the trunk has a curve to it, sot wing has to clear the curve, or if it's a lip it has to bend to fit it.

this is another spoiler i like, it's from a volvo 850R.

Dude, put the wing on the roof.
Oh, did I forget to mention how expensive the LTW and replica wings are? :D
chunky
12-30-2004, 09:56 AM
well the volvo board is saying wither get a replica of the one on the "group A race car" witch is around $250 plus shipping from AUS, or get a ricer wing. they say those are the only funtional wings that would work.
there is a guy on the volvo board that seays he has a spoiler that looks just like the top piece of the LTW wing, but he dosn't have pics.

You know, there are other options besides a $1200 race spoiler......you can get some used POS for well under $100.
chunky

that's what i want, but i can't find one, dosn't really matter cuz i'm not putting one on untill may when i can repaint it to match the volvo silver.
i was just trying to get ideas, i think i'm gunna try and find one of those ones on the volvo 850r like i posted earlyer, i think that would look nice.

i found a guy in the UK that works for a company that makes replica parts.
this is the "group A" spoiler that volvo uses on there race cars, it is actually funtional too. with the current currency rate it would be about $270

well, now i'm thinking about just no wing, i really wanted something to make it look a lil different, but ohh well.
this is probably your best option. with a volvo, you're better off to keep it stock, it keeps the resale value, plus, how fast are you really going in a 10 year old car? do you really need functional downforce? i can understand needing a park bench on an STi to keep it on the road, but a volvo? i'm not trying to flame, but it just seems like a waste of money.

BTW, I have done 120 for looooong periods in my 11 year old swede. :champion:

not to be too cruel but shouldnt you stash some money away in case this car breaks and you are left without transportation again.

Actually the sti doesnt go fast enough stock to really make use of the wing, its awd anyway
My car is about 12 years old and is capable of 180 I dunno maybe you dont consider that "fast"
No car has a functional wing other then the porsche 996(+other exotics), the wing extends the faster you go - anything below 150 and your really just making drag anyway.

You can tell he owns an rx7 lol
