DADO'S BIRTHDAY DRIVE 5/10/08

This past Saturday was Dado's birthday so we decided to do a little drive from Manassas, VA to Skyline Drive in VA. Dado just finished putting another new motor in the M3 and re-registered it. It's the first time it's been legal (barely) on public roads in 3 years. Bachir also finished up school this past week and needed to release some stress. We all met at Dash Performance at 2pm.

We leave Dash Performance and go to a 350Z meet a couple miles down the road at BK. We grab some lunch before heading out to the mountains. Some very nice Zs show up.

Leaving BK, we take an exit ramp onto Rt.234. We go across a bridge then the 2 exit lanes merge into 1. Bachir floors it and goes around a car before the lanes go into a single. No big deal.

We go a mile down the road and come up to a red traffic light. A motorcycle cop is sitting in the left turning lane. We get to light and the cop starts to check us out. Then a guy in a Sebring motions the cop 3 lanes over. The bike cop drives around the stopped cars to the Sebring. The guy must have said something about us because when the light turned green, the cop followed us.

We get to the next light and the cop makes a left. We go up one more light and make a right. Dado decides to drift the turn and so the Sebring follows us. We turn into a gas station and the Sebring drives by. 5 minutes later cop#2 pulls up behind Bachir. He asks for Bachir's license.

The guy in the Sebring called in a complaint saying that a black Porsche was passing cars on the shoulder. Bachir just gets a verbal warning and we are let go. Bachir gets his license back forgetting that he's wearing a BK crown, lol!

We drive not even 3 miles when cop#3 comes out of nowhere and blocks in Dado, Paul, and Joe on RT15. It was strange because we were all doing at or below the speed limit. The rest of us drive a mile down the road and hide. Daniel and I decide to drive back to see what's up. As we pass, Paul is let go. Daniel makes another U-turn and as we pass again, Joe is getting handcuffed!

We fly back to the rest of the guys and I jump into Perdue's Mercedes. We didn't know what was going on but we didn't want the 350Z to be towed if Joe was going to jail. Perdue pulls next to the cop and I ask the cop if everything was okay. He tells me that he thinks Joe would be fine. Meanwhile Joe is in the back of the police car.

We meet the rest of the guys down the road at Harris Teeter to wait for Joe.

20 minutes later, Joe shows up. Turns out the cop made a mistake and thought his Utah license was fake. The cop apologizes for the mistake and let's Joe go without any "fix it" tickets (exhaust, etc.). So after all the drama, we were back on the road and we were still only 6 miles from the BK!

Cop#4 was on the other side of the highway when he spotted us. We were doing the speed limit but he decided to follow us anyways. We thought for sure Dado was going to get nabbed or Perdue because he had a fake "Mischief" CA license plate on his front bumper. The cop drives with us for a few miles then turns off.

We were all pretty frustrated by this point. The whole drive was done at the speed limit. When we got into the mountains, our moods and speeds changed. Skyline Drive was 2 lanes up and 1 lane down. Dado decided to take this opportunity to do some high speed mountain drifting!

Okay, I've seen Dado drift before. But never on public roads in the mountains! The first drift was up Daniel's ass. Daniel was so surprised by Dado that he wasn't paying attention to the road! The closer Dado got to the Mini, the more nervous Daniel got. I'm not going to lie, we both thought that we were going to wreck! I can't image what the other driver's coming down the mountain thought as they saw a yellow M3 drifting sideways.

We let Dado pass and gave him plenty of room. He took another tight bend sideways at over 70mph! The best and most dangerous driving that I've ever seen Dado do. Crazy!

We fuel up before hopping on RT.81N to drive home. Perdue buys Dado a singing birthday bear. Our 2 hour drive home was uneventful.

Probably our slowest drive ever but it proves to show how much bad luck we encounter on our drives no matter how slow we drive. But it was still a blast! No one got tickets and it was so awesome to see Dado drifting in the mountains!

The problems with drives is that the more people you have, the more dangerous it gets. Throw in a couple video cameras and people push it a little more thinking that something like a shoulder pass will make it into the next Mischief movie. When I get a release form together, doing a drive for the forum members is possible.

The 3 cars got pulled over just as we got onto RT15. Dado said they were going below the speed limit. I think it was just a random check. The cop let Paul go because he has PA plates and since Dado's license was fine, he was let go too. Joe could explain it better than I can.
