FAR EAST TRIP - PART 1 - TAIWAN 1/08

Daniel and I just got back from Taiwan to visit my mom's side of the family. I haven't been there in over 20 years. My mom is one of 10 kids so our extended family in Taiwan is pretty large. Our extended family in the states is just a couple relatives.. So we were pretty overwhelmed meeting so many new family members and it was a little difficult with communicating since my mom is the only one that speaks Chinese. One of my cousins works in the FBI over there and he also helped in the translations. Here are our pics from our 10 day Far East trip.

We visit this huge mall. There are huge shopping malls all over Taiwan. This one is in Taipei, the capitol of Taiwan.

"Adults Only" mall rides. Daniel and I raced these through the mall. I dared him to take his bear down the escalator but he won't.

The toy stores were freakin awesome! 1:18 scale diecast cars everywhere!

They play US rap music everywhere and don't bother to blur out the obscenities because no one can understand them. This toy store was blasting a Dr. Dre song and there were little kids everywhere in the store!

We were able to break away from the family and met up with my buddy Jack who was vacationing in Taiwan at the same time. He was visiting his buddy Phil who owns GT Spec. GT Spec makes performance parts for mostly Japanese cars. Jack and Phil pick us up and show us the car scene around the Taipei area. Unfortunately the weather sucked and it rained most of the time. We first visit a performance shop that builds VIP cars. Here's a Nissan Teana. Pretty much the same size of a Maxima.

We visit this performance shop in the middle of this industrial park that specializes in rotaries. Because of recent emission regulations, it's now illegal to import the RX7. The RX8 is fine. Some RX7 titles are going for over $20,000US!

There are automated parking garages in Taipei. The car drives onto the platform and is lifted up to empty spaces somewhere in the 10 story building.

We go hiking one day in the second largest city called Kaohsiung. It's a mile up these stairs up monkey mountain. There are wild monkey's everywhere waiting for you to feed them. Sounds cool at first until they try to take your bags, glasses, water bottles, etc.

We go to the current tallest building in the world Taipei 101. Unfortunately, it was cloudy as hell.

This was taken in the parking garage. One whole level for scooter parking. Scooters overrun Taiwan. I've never seen so many scooters in my life! Sometimes whole families on one scooter! Everyone here drives so bad then throw these scooters in the mix, lol!

There's this huge ball suspended at the top of the building that keeps this tall building from swaying during earthquakes and high winds.

Taiwan's bullet train. Only takes about 90 mins to get from the top to the bottom of Taiwan.

Jack and Phil took us out a couple of nights to check out the nightlife in Taipei. We ended up at the same Karaoke bar two nights in a row because the women here so hot! We also hung out a pro drifter turned F1 racer. (First guy)

Overall I was very impressed with the car scene and how modern Taiwan has become since the last time I visited. It was great to know that I have a huge family out there. Phil promises that he'll have some mountain drifting and some street races for us to shoot. We can't wait to go back! Part 2 will cover our Hong Kong trip...

PR chicks definately cannot take pictures. I'm bringing my tripod with me next time. I'm glad we were able to take Daniel out on his birthday and had a good time.

Now that I'm a full partner in http://www.gtspec.com I'm buying a condo in Taipei at the end of the year and I will be back there more often. You guys have a place to crash in Taipei whenever you need to.

I'll slowly add more links to pics as I edit them. I took over 1000 pics over the 2 weeks that I was there. Let's plan the next trip with an itinerary and we will be able to deliver some unbelievable footage of the hot cars and hot chicks in Taiwan. If you guys had stayed till the weekend, you would've gone clubbing with us and all of our girls. Just like at karaoke, I got molested and almost raped. You guys haven't seen anything yet!
