wow... that's a new one. I was worried because A dodge dealership by my buddy's office, that took a trade in of an SRT-4 on an SRT-10 Ram a couple months ago couldn't pass the car on their own inspection! A VA State po-po had to come and sign off on the inspection noting 'mufflerless exhaust system' on the inspection.

I've always been under the impression that as long as it within +2 wheel sizes from stock it's ok. I'm not exaclty sure but a lot of the M3 wheels are 17's so one size up shouldn't be an issue. If they give you shit though, just take it to a different shop. Shit on top of that there's enough ppl in MD to get a hot ticket from.

I've never heard of this before. I never knew the wheel size mattered in an inspection. Where do you live in MD? There's an Exxon in Towson that the main mechanic wrote off my repair order for my exhaust which, technically, is illegal.

I went to 2 shops so far. ONe shop said since i have lo-pro's on he wouldnt pass it. i showed im the stock rim (225/45/17) I have 235/40/18 on now. There is one guy who gave me his card and told me for $175 he'll pass me. I live in Hyattsville, MD (near UMD) I thought the 2 size up rule was true also, but each shop says dif things. It sux i jut bought this m3 and it wont pass inspection. If anyone knows a shop that can help leave a rply.
thnx

Hyattsville is kinda far away from Towson, haha. Sorry, can't offer any help in your area.

I have 215/40/17 and I passed VA, so if you can't pass MD, you gotta problem! I'd say take it to a small shop in Bel Air or something, somewhere where there's not too many people. Get out to the country, they'll pass you.

take it to one of those shops that dont look too good. u know what i mean. if u take it to those "high class" shops of course they gonna look into every little thing to not pass u or charge u more. i took my car to a cheap shop and all he did was check if my tires where good and my wipers and thats it. i pass.

I'd rather deal with inspection then being "smogged" .... The county I live in, in MD has no emissions testing once you've passed the inspection.

Single Outlet 3" borla is like a 10-15 whp difference (i know a few people that have that exact setup and dyno'd it. :starwars: <-why do we have this?)

I was gonna use my friends 04 bmw 325i 's rims but its in the shop after a near totaled accident. I am still getting used to the m3...she got a few mods. I took her to MAine last weekend. It was sleeting out so i took my bro out in the m3 and did a few 360's in front of his house.. I gotta practice drifting more.

Is the emissions inspection a county law or state law? I have to get my emissions tested every year....or is it 2 years? Anyway, you don't have to get yours tested after that first time?

No sir ... only at inspection and that's it. I have absolutly no cat on my car now and I NEVER have to worry about it again ...
That's crazy. I have to get my emissions tested (I think) once every 2 years. But I do like the fact that in MD we only have to get it inspected once and we're done. My friends in PA and NJ that have to get their car inspected every year or every 2 years are always complaining because they have to uninstall a lot of their stuff just for inpection and put it all back on.

Sorry I forgot to mention, in MD it's a county law. I'm in Wicomico county and we don't have to deal with it, but my friends else where do ..

If your having problems getting your vehicle inspected, do what I do. register it in Georgia. They dont have inspection. My car would never pass PA inspection/smog.
I hope the GA DMV doesnt have any Teck members or I am screwed.

Emissions varies by county. The population of the county has a big big influence on whether or not you have to get tested for emissions. I would suspect that Wicomico County will have to start getting their emissions tested starting within the next 5 years due to the population exploding out there.

Actually GA does require emissions inspection starting around 7 years ago after the federal government threatened to freeze their transportation fund under a provision of the Clean Air Act.

Thanks for your posts everyone. I passed MD inspection on Saturday. What a hassle though. Glad I never have to do that again. Hmmm now maybe the cats are gonna come off?
