I have one pseudo exotic classic porsche dunno if this classifys but I'll give it a try :)
1976 Porsche 912E
(some 912E stats --> only 2099 were imported to the states - of those 2099 only 200 had sunroofs - this is one of the surviving ones with a sunroof. Of the 200 I would estimate that half are surviving - making this one rare and unique car)
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/452000-452999/452781_2_full.jpg
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/452000-452999/452781_1_full.jpg
Bought it in LA for about 8 grand - when it got back to pittsburgh it was time to let the modding begin!
First thing was first this car had a weak system - 2x door speakers (inifintys - kappas i think not positive) and that was it. I put in a MTX 421D Thunder amp that went to power a 10" audiobahn sub. The sub had a custom made box that sat in the seat directly behind the driver and the amp was put up in the contraband box of the hood.
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/452000-452999/452781_9_full.jpg
(pre-wiring)
A car this old of course needed a capaciter and everything got controlled by an Alpine flip down face headunit.
After all this sound work the engine needed a little extra power. The 912E was the only 4 banger fuel-injected engine porsche put into the 911 chasis stock it put about 120bhp and ran 0-60 in a pitiful 12s. That needed to change.
The upgrades to the engine included a SACHS high performance clutch
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/452000-452999/452781_4_full.jpg
http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/452000-452999/452781_5_full.jpg
and a full engine conversion to carburators - yes the whole fuel injection system was taken out. The carbs gave the car a much louder more aggressive and raw sound and drive. It definetly boosted power. That coupled with the cars crazy low weight of just under 2400 lbs made this car a perfect track car (not a very good drag car though)
So this is my show car - the thing that is most impressive about it isnt what ive done to it - but what I havent done. It has original paint - original recaro leather seats - and original interior (for the most part - mom shift knob and sound system) and it is in better condition then my 2004 tiburon. Just goes to show you :)
Anyway - hope you all enjoyed the history of my show porsche - leave your thoughts and any feedback. All the work on the car was done by myself and my dad (who happens to be a porsche mechanic - what luck)
oh and I didn't see that thing about your dads car so here is my dads
(this car is even rarer then my 912E - also a lot more expensive. The Boxer was never federalized by Ferrari so the only way it could be imported and legalized was by independent firms which made this car hyper expensive - when it was new in 1982 it cost over 225,000 for each year Ferrari made about 1000 of these - and maybe a couple hudred found their ways to US shores and it is estimated half survive [as many know it is very costly to legalize a car independently])

i love how "someone" let a normal corvette, that wasnt even a Z06 on the first drive and wouldnt let my lightning go... im just bitter , but think about this.....
would u consider a corvette that my truck can beat, that u would see tons of times in one day on any day of the week that is owned by so many people in america a rare and exotic car....
my lightning is number 1,062 out of 5,000. they only make around 5,000 Lightnings a year, u maybe see one once every 2 months because they are rare! (unless u hang out w/ me...) My stock truck is pushing 440 footpounds of torque and 370 horses... again i am just bitter
but dont u think some homework is in order for allowing domesics on the drives.. hahaha... oh wait i forgot its not about the fun anymore! its about gettin the money from the bankers!

That fact is wrong - sorry guys but here is the correctness:
correct fact: 1000 BBi's TOTAL were made - not 1000 bbis every year. 1000 BBi's TOTAL. We estimate that about 200 were either totaled (high performance car - low performance driver) or are in poor condition. Leaving 800 total BBis - about half of these were imported into the stateswe think. Making this 1 of 400 roughly. Oh and the guy that did the importing for this car ended up with cement shoes...

You have a nice little project on your hands, verry cool.
I had a 1980 BB512 for a few years, it was not in as good of shape as yours is. It was cool until Enzo died, then the price of those cars went through the roof. I bought mine for 35k and traded it a few years later for a brand new TR. Now the TR is worth 40k less than the bb512.
Reza owns his own company, there for he own's the cars he sells.
As my boy would say..........."Don't hate"
I own a Nsx and have owned a few F cars.

well you would be surprised...
The porsche - I bought that one for - get ready... 8,000!!
Thats right - that perfect 912E I paid 8 grand for. Original paint that outshines 2004 model cars' paint, original leather recaros on the inside, no rust, perfect. I would estimate it would sell for about 12,000 now - cause thats what a lot of em are going for.
When buying any kind of classic exotic (anything over 20 years old is considered classic) the market fluctuates a lot and it requires a lot of timing.
You can actually buy a Ferrari for around 20-25k. The Mondial as close as ferrari got to an econo-sport. It's a pretty crappy car but they go for pretty cheap. I think its a front-engined V8.

Love the 912. The NA route you took is crazy, but I think the ultimate sleeper would be to drop a 3.3 L 930 engine with a G50/50 tranny for ultimate performance. The 912 is SO light. Of course, you would be looking at an easy 12-15K for the conversion.

another porsche fanatic!! I thought I was all alone :)
Yes - it was indeed quite a lot of work to convert the engine from fuel injected to carbs but since the original 912 was designed with carbs it wasn't like putting a square peg in a round whole.
Of course the downside to owning a 912 is that it looks just like the 911 only it has about half the hp - so instead of being a sleeper its the opposite!!
I love the targa porsches - my dad has an original 912 targa (67) and a 911 coupe hidden away somewhere...
Have you done any work to your porsches? Lets get some pics!!!

Targa is stock. The Coupe is currently going under a complete conversion. It is getting 930 F/R fenders, Fuchs 16x9 and 16x10, Turbo Tail, new Guard's Red paint, SSI's, Monty Dual Out Muffler, Steve Wong Chip, and thinking about a Protomotive Turbo Kit.

I also built the "herbie" behind my 73. It was my gf's at the time and she wanted to keep the savannah beige orig. color but wanted herbie. Stupid girl.
Anyway, my 73....
lowered spindles and torsions in the front, rear spring plates down 2 notches
all white interior
Grant steering wheel, sewfine center console, empi shifter, autometer tach, Pioneer headunit, RF Fanatic P in custom kickpanels, RF 750X amp, 2 RF 10" XLC subs in custom ported box behind back seats, all original seats, door panels, headliner, all in white, black carpet, etc etc etc
billet running boards, Porsche 914 2 liter wheels, 195/60/15 back, 125/15 front
"swamp cooler" on window, roof rack, white window rubber, white fender beading
1776 motor, dual kadron carbs, 1 5/8" header, stinger, accel coil
Anyway, my wheels were "exotic" hahahahaha.

I love the targa - they got rid of it though. The last targamodels looked fugly though - since it was like a clear glass roof. It just looked out of place. The earlier targas were definetly my favorite - with the hard sport roof roll bar and soft fabric rear window/surround. Do you know what year your dads was? Was it before or after 1976 (thats when they made a lot of changes to the bodystyles - big plastic bumper gaurds, less chrome, no air vents on the front bumper)?

For some reason, the lines and performance of some Italian and German cars is just amazing. Sometimes one would expect to sacrifice confort and driveability for speed, but this isn't always true. If only I could find that money tree my parents are always complaing about... :D

Ruf is the best tuner, they underrate their numbers and have OEM reliability. Not bad for a tuner/manufacturer. And to top it off, Alois Ruf is a great guy that will entertain calls from potential clients (even if he knows they can't afford the great cars he makes  )

Yeah, but they are rare, which makes them cool, only 1000 produced in 1992 and I had one of them (#78)...not too shabby! :D They were the Evo ('cept Evos are not rare) of their time!! :headbang:

Well they were built 13 years before the Evo VIII. The technology just wasn't there back then! And the VR-4 had has All Wheel Steering, so.... :p :p
And hey when did I talk bad about it!? :) I've had 4 GSX's, 2 GST's, 3 TSi AWD's and a VR-4 - and my beater is a TSi AWD. Wouldn't pay $32,000 for an Evo, but I'd sure as hell buy a used one! All hail the DSM!

The cayenne is overdevloped as it is - the turbo model has more power then an suv should already. I've driven cayennes and they are wicked fast for suvs.
As for buying a C4S I can talk to my boss see if he'll give you a deal on one :) They are slick cars - but I'd rather have a 996 Turbo - just personal tastes :P

The Enzo belongs to a good friend of mine. It is a pretty hard car to argue with, being as it is completely exceptional in every respect! Sometime around February another car will be added to our stable -- the Porsche equivalent of the Enzo :) It should make for an interesting time at the track, if not at least for some cool photos :)

Nice pic's Richard, can't wait to see the video.
The F50, aka the "F50k" now has well over 50,000 miles and is still in awesome running condition! However, all of those cars are daily driven -- that Enzo had more than 2,000 miles on it within a month of ownership! Now has more than 6,000 :)
As for the movie, the event is pushed back a month this year but our quicker production schedule should put us up for initial release by March (as with last year). I believe you're an f-chat guy as well, watch the Louisiana regional forum for information. I will probably be more likely to post there as things progress. We have an awesome deal for distribtution thanks to Dustin :) Are you attending this year? Dustin and I (as well as the rest of the crew) will be driving down on the 11th.

Alot of those Italian cars get bad reps from the owners that let the cars sit as show pieces rather than use them for what they were intended for... Let them sit long enough and things start drying out and that's when you get into the problems. Good to see the F50 getting driven!

And on the other end of that spectrum are people who drive their Ferraris like they are indestructable. They are just like any other car only even more sensitive - so when you here the bad reps that ferraris and other hyper exotics keep that in mind as well :)
