View Full Version : Exhaust choice

It seems that I'm gonna go full custom on my exhaust, rather than spending a ridiculous $1,200 for name brand (ie Brabus, been there, done that), which is no more different than my stock exhaust.
So, I got my tips selected, and now I need the muffler/canister. I thought about Magnaflow because thats what the shop carries, but come on, it's a Benz, not a Yellow Cougar ( :lol2: :angel2: ).
Someone recommended these: http://www.nipponpower.com/exhaust/mufflers/thermal_mufflers.html
I thought about Borla, but I dont know shit about them (nor any other muffler companies out there to be honest).
I don't need a muffler that has tips, b/c they'll get chopped up anyway.
Englighten me please.

renntech?
Same shit as Brabus, Lorinser and whatever else. It's fucking expensive and i'll need to chop it up anyway to fit my exhaust cutout in the bumper, plus none of the tips from the big names will work out w/ the looks I'm going for (dual round tips).

we have HKS on the SC2 and it sounds great, i don't know if you can buy just the muffler though.
personally i would stick with a well known brand: HKS, GReddy, APC.

APC lmao, I don't know too much about exhaust but I have worked at an auto parts store, so like brad said, HKS, Greddy. But Borla is good also.
Believe it or not, most mufflers are all the same. And most of them are all sourced from Taiwan.
I mean, seriously, it's just a steel canister in a particular shape with a certain baffle design inside. Nothing hard about making them.
You should have walked around AAPEX (the OTHER show at SEMA) and talked to some of the manufacturers there.

The Thermal ones are preety good. All the shops around where i work including our shop(autothority) carry them and recomend them to customers.
Magnaflow is a good option also. A friend of mine has a custom exhaust with a magnaflow on his SR 240 and it sounds great.

I know this is a whole system and not just mufflers but what about Eisenmann? Surely not as cheap as APC  but below $1,000. When I actually gave a rats ass about my car, that's what I was looking at. If you wont put Magnaflow or Flowmaster on, please in Gods name don't put Greddy or HKS on a Mercedes.
Actually, when I was getting the exhaust for my Cougar, people with the same system but the Dynomax instead of the Flowmaster like I had, said they could hardly notice a difference in sound.
Please, never get Pacesetter, ever.
Even though you hated on my Cougar a bit, I still help you....I dont know why.

Honda guys swear by ES Tuning as the canister alternative. However, there isn't a dual-tip design out.

Please, never get Pacesetter,
Pacesetter is total junk. They dont even look good, the tip is like 3 in then if you look at it you can see the real outlet is like 1 inch.

you could cut some holes in the hood and just run a pipe for each cylinder out through them, come on, be different.

on my tiburon i had a greddy exhaust - it was fucking expensive but had an awesome sound. Deep and low not at all high pitched rice or weedwacker sound.
