-- keep your windows open..
--walk the track FIRST, get there early... learn where and when you want to turn, when you are actually doing the course... you will want to know whether you can go close on one turn, and then have time to correct, or if you have to take it wide..
best of luck, it is hella fun :D

if there is water, (sometimes ther is and sometimes ther isnt) and you dont have slicks, avoid it if at all possible

What is the idea behind keeping your windows open?

keeping your windows open is so u hear someone yelling..
i had a blast and highly recommend it. but plan on killing tires.... i went from a 63.4 to a 47.5 awesome time and it does teach you to push the limits of the car.

i had a friend that auto X'ed his stock SVT focus and it had so much body roll that the front bumper hit the ground when he made sharp corners, but now it's bagged on 19's and has a super duper cold air intake from jackson racing (supercharger)

Yeah, I plan on fixing that soon. Stage 1 Springs are $300 for all 4. I would LOVE to get an ACR suspension though..

seems like that car would be hard to auto x because of the weight. looks like you almost got that front driver side tire off the ground. how did you do?

that wasnt even a bad turn... i was exiting the slalom. i did really well for a 140HP car that weighs 3200lbs and is geared for 140mph. i basically placed last though but i went from a 63.4 second run to a 47.5 second run. it was def a friggin blast though

I love Auto-x. Something that really comes down to driver skill unlike driving fast down the highway.
These are some pics from last yeatr when I had my E36. Havent had a chance to do it with my M5... I am hoping to get an E30 to do up for Auto-x.

I'm going to take the Caprice autocrossing early next year. A friend of mine from Triad Sports Car Club (www.auto-x.com (http://www.auto-x.com/)) is going to help me get started. He's said they've had a "bomb" like mine out there before, so this should be interesting. I'm going to do it because I love driving. I don't care about times and how well I do.

what all needs to be done for auto-xing, never done it and I want to try it because it looks hella fun and if there is one thing I am good at it's handling corners very well.

Well, first thing you should do is find out when and where the nearest autocross meet is. Try www.autocrossers.com . You have to pre register, which is easy, usually 2 weeks in advance. Theres normally an online form that you have to fill out and mail in with a registration fee.
The registration fee is less is you become an SCCA member. Last year it was like 70 bucks for the whole year. Its pretty cheap.
Read the rules. You have to make sure that you pic the right class to race. Or just pick like "F-stock" and let them know its a fun run while yer still getting a feel for the event.
Vehicle wise the very first thing to do, if you have a few hundred to spend, is to go to e-bay and buy a few used slicks. This is the most important upgrade because what good is a strut tower brace or lowering springs if your slidding or plowwing. So get four of them and throw them on. If yer getting rims, stay small. Make sure to remove anything thats not bolted to the car and leave the floor mats at home. If theres time, remove seats and anything else that you can remove without messing up with the structural integrity of the car. Bring sunscreen or an umbrella because your going to be working the race during one of the other classes go. Other then that sit back, smile, and let the car throw ya around some. GL
