I've been trying to cover the French Quarter Classic Ferrari event in New Orleans for three years now. It's scheduled every year during the same week as Sema. I finally got to cover the event this year. I also wanted to see what New Orleans looks like now. Canadian Brian also flew in to cover the event with me. We get into N.O. on Thursday and meet with our host Richard.

Driving from the airport, it's pretty crazy to see huge buildings with blown out windows in them. Some are waiting to be demolished. There are FEMA trailers everywhere. You can see the flood line on the side of some houses. The French Quarter section of the city (where we were staying) was never flooded but was damaged heavily by the hurricane winds.

The French Quarter Classic is a 3 day event catered to Ferrari owners. Majority of the money raised goes to the N.O. police dept. They really needed the money this year because they lost most of their police cars during the floods and from looting. They even have to rent cars and slap police stickers on them.

Here are some pics that I took that Thursday:

We had to walk a couple blocks from the hotel to the dinner party. Right before we walked into the party, I noticed a huge crowd of people walking towards us. It was some kind of parade. Turns out, there are nightly parades in N.O. every night. It was great to see people celebrating in the streets once again.

Friday was the big track day at No Problem Raceway Park. It's about 60 miles out of the city. We had a huge police escort to the track. 10 police cars and 15 motorcycles. I was very impressed how they got 70 cars quickly out of the city during morning rush hour. But I was most impressed when the police blocked every on ramp to all the highways that we travelled on! It was a 60 mile, 100 mph escort! People were so pissed at us, lol!

The racetrack was pretty small but we got to see a lot of high speed action. The turn out was down 60% this year. A lot of people still had not returned to the area after the hurricane.

On the way back to the city there was no police escort so the cars went all out. In the 350Z, we were at 140 for 2 minutes chasing the Carrera GT racing a new Z06. When we slowed to 120, a F430 came up behind us with the police lights going. The footage looks great with the F430 in our rear mirror. We let him pass and then we all tucked behind him. He pushed through all the traffic for us.

Saturday was the car show in the French Quarter. Pretty chill. A lot of people came out and celebrated in the streets. Definitely good to see.

Saturday night, we went out to Bourbon Street. Yes, girls flash for beads everyday of the year! It was an awesome night filled with boobs and beer!

Sunday was a parade through the French Quarter and then a 10 minute drive to brunch.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v420/Teckademics/TeckEast%20pics/FQC06-Sun-cops.jpg

I didn't think I would get any crazy footage but I did! As soon as the police escort lead us to a open highway, everyone went crazy! The on ramps of this particular highway were blocked by the police! I have footage of the Carrera GT and an F40 battling it out at over 180 on video! It was awesome to see both of those cars flying past several police cars on this open 3 lane highway. All I have to say is wow!

This was filmed by a friend in the F40 but he only focused on the speedo. Dammit.

We arrive a this old mansion for lunch. There was a church choir singing on the second floor balcony. Pretty nice way to end a crazy weekend.

The Enzo has adjustable suspensions ride height for going over speed bumps and stuff, so they might have it up from that?

Defintiy awesome tho!

Nice pics!!!
Sounds like a bit of fun.
I'd like to visit New Orleans.

You should come to Le Mans during the 24 Hours race, exotics are everywhere. You can stay at my house for the WE event. As you wish for the future.
