Stolen shamelessly from the front page of Slashdot:

"KDR_11k writes "1up reports on a Famitsu article discussing the future of microtransactions for PS3. According to the article, Gran Tourismo HD will require all cars to be bought via microtransactions. More specifically, the 'classic' package will come with no cars or tracks and the 'premium' package will include 30 cars and a measly 2 tracks to race on. Additional cars cost between 50 and 100 yen ($0.43-$0.85) and tracks go for 200-500 yen ($1.71-$4.26) a piece. No pricing was given for the game itself." From the article: "Now, is it possible that the game will be a full-priced title with a built-in download system that allows users to download cars and tracks equal to the number of the game's retail price? We hope the model ends up similar to this. However, right now, details are extremely sparse, and Sony has to have an answer to these questions -- most of the people who can answer are over in Tokyo, we'll update if we hear back. Welcome to next-gen.""

sony's a little too big on the 'elitist gamer' the main stream will NEVER pay that much for in game features.. you're talking $85 for 100 cars?! Shit, I have more than 100 cars in my garage in GT4

yeah, well I mean, if they make the game itself FREE, then its at least sorta kinda reasonable
but yeah - they gotta rethink this one

they might release this game for only a few dollars and there will be 2 different versions of the game..

September 23, 2006 - Bummed about Sony's micro transaction plans for Gran Turismo HD? Well this news might soften the blow just a bit. Japan's Impress Watch games site reports that, in comments made to the Japanese press, series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Sony plans to make GT HD available for the cost of the game disk and instruction manual. This suggests a retail price point of just a few dollars for the first PS3 Gran Turismo game.

This form of distribution is not new in the online gaming world. The PC version of Swing Golf Panya, for instance, is available for free. All monetary transactions coming when players purchase items. The PC title has thus far been a big success.

GT HD will include two main modes of play, Sony revealed earlier this week. Classic mode is basically Gran Turismo 4 running in 1080p along with a few other visual enhancements. The focus of this mode is on online play. Players race one-another online and purchase cars and tracks for a few dollars each. This mode won't include any courses and tracks from the start.

In comparison, those who want a more offline-oriented experience will be able to try out Premium mode. In addition to offering an early glimpse at the Gran Turismo 5 graphics engine (the actual GT5 won't be released until 2008), this mode will include 30 cars and 2 brand-new tracks right out of the box.

Sony clarified at TGS that Premium mode itself will have downloads. Players will be able to download 30 additional cars and a couple of additional tracks at the time of the game's release. The timing of these downloads suggests that they will not be free.

Development on Gran Turismo HD is currently at the 70% mark. A Japanese release is set for December.

As if having to pay for cars isn't dumb enough now they are going to release the game for only a couple of dollars? That means that people who don't purchase things online or stand in line hours before a store opens on freight day are never going to be able to get their hands on a copy.

Besides the fact that I agree that its the dumbest idea ever, why bother even getting this game??? Its NOT Gran Turismo 5, its like a middle game that is just coming out around the time PS3 comes out, for the sake of having a game. Just wait until GT5 comes out and be happy.

Unless they try to pull the same stunt with that game :dunno:

What I don't get is the hype of HD? GT4 is already 1080i compatible so what the hell is the big deal?

Unless they try to pull the same stunt with that game :dunno:

that is the precies reason im getting it....in case they do pull this shit with gt5....this way i can work the server over in the meantime and find a way around buying it....prolly will end up using alot of limewire doing it...but that when we get gt5...if they give us the same kinda bs..then i wilalready have a base knowledge of how to get around it

That will be a massive flop. People don't buy games to go through the effort of buying more crap for them. I buy a game, I want to go home, sit down and play the damn thing. Not set up a credit card for my fucking PLAYSTATION and then set it up with a connection to my DSL, and wait for it to go through.

Whoever came up with this idea needs to be slapped. With the already high priced system and now this crappy idea they need to rename it to PAYstation 3. Fuckers!

DO not worry...its still in the early stages...mainly since the guy i know that has the game is obviously just a beta...but we have already started creating a hack to get around this

like 4 days after i originally saw this thread i heard froma friend ofmine that he had gotten his hands on a beta of the game (i really wish i knew how to get in with his job...being a beta tester wouldbe awesome you know)

anyhow...bout 10 minutes after getting there...he foundout bout paying it for and shit...so we immediately linked up his laptop and started playing around.....so far we have hacked 2 tracks and 4 cars...im going to hope that we only that many at this point becuase thats all they have ready on the servers...but thats all we haave been able to find out so far

once the full version comes out....and i finish my hack to include the full version and no longer work it off the beta...ill putit up upload it somewhere to be dl'ed and link it up here
