Yeah. I thought I might as well share this story since I've gotten over it quite a bit, and since it was a decent kill...

This happened during the summer, when I still drove my banana... '91 Acura Integra LS with auto tranny. I was driving down the road with my cousin, on my way back to my house from the mall. And then, it just so happens my friend from school was behind me in his dark green 2000 something VW Jetta base model, auto as well. So, we turn onto the long stretch of road (Woodbury Road, you Long Islanders would know if you drive around Hicksville). He rolls up beside me, and I punch the gas. My exhaust was LOUD back then. REALLY loud. Exceeding passed about 80mph, I smoked the Jetta at about three or four car lengths ahead. Slow down a bit, he turns off into another street. Then, I make a left turn onto my street. Low and behold, there was a Nassau County Crown Victoria cruiser right on my ass. I pull over, and he starts flashing his lights. After the whole basic procedure with the officer, he gives me a ticket for, " Speed Unreasonable and Interruptive," and goes on to tell me, " I'm only giving you this one ticket, because I saw you racing down there with that other car. I was at the OTB when you just gunned it. " I gave him a polite, " Sorry, " and then he was off. I hope the judge won't strip my license until I'm 21 'cause I only have my NY Class DJ license, not a full license. Hopefully I get off with a simple probationary period. =x

Yeah. It sucks. It wasn't as bad as I thought it could be. I could have gotten ticketed for my exhaust, my hyper white blinkers, street racing, reckless driving, and having a class DJ license without a fully licensed driver in the car.

Your license won't get takin till your 21. I have 105 in a 65 and 52 in 40 and my license didn't get taken away and I have the probationary license until I am 18. They will just want money, they usually do.

Ya geeze lucky you are, whats the deal with the unreasonable speed and interuptive thing, is for when they don't get you on radar but want to bust your ass for speeding anyways?

If that had of happened up here with a riced out car, the car would be on a tow truck, you would have your licence taken and given a court date. Hell they would prolly take you to the cop shop and print you, they are going all out on the ricers around here now. My friend just got pulled over for his exhuast and clear blinkers a couple days ago, when they had him pulled over they checked basically everything on his car, basically re-safetying it for him :eek7:

Don't you guys have a demerit point system down there in the US? Up here we are only aloud to get so many demerit points depending on our licence before we have to go to a meeting with the ministry of transportation and plead to them why they should let us keep our license. Ive got 2 points left until I have to go to that meeting, 5 more and they yank my license no ifs ands or buts :thumbdown

Not necessarily true, at all...

I've got two 2000+ VW's... a 2001 Jetta and a 2003 1.8T GTI, and haven't had any "electrical problems." Coil-packs and window regulators were a typical problem, but they were all taken care of under recall. I had them replace my coilpacks and window regulators before I drove my 2003 GTI off the lot, and they happily obliged. No big deal IMO.

There are people who have issues.. just like with any other car. All cars have their faults. I've never had any serious problems with mine and I don't know anyone personally who has had any problems, and I know a lot of mk4 drivers/owners. I bought both of my 2000+ VW's brand new, and am obviously the first owner. No problem.

I would much rather have a Jetta than an Integra, personally.

5 or 6 pages? That's nothing when you put it into perspective. On VWvortex, for example, we've got over 160,000 members. Think about 5 pages... lots of people complaining, but lots of people posting multiple times too. So what? 160,000 members... If the problems were that serious, 160,000 members would chime in and it'd be 10,000 pages instead of 5 or 6. Like I said before, all cars have problems. They still have more personality though :D

again, like I said... those were the two main problems that some people had, but they weren't an issue because VW fixed 'em under warranty/recall.

so that wolfie is apr stg2? if I'm ever up that way again, maybe you can take me for a ride. I've ridden in a stg3 car, and I've ridden in 400-500hp GTI's with custom setups, but I wonder how strong stg2 feels. I think you're in Steve's area, aren't you? You know Steve?

I haven't really had any major problems with my car, and I drive it hard. Every problem that i've had has been pretty much self inflected if that makes any sense. I'll admit, some of them are a bit weird, but they are great cars.
