i set up my video camera for one the nicest sunsets there and let it record the whole thing with no interuptions, bout 18 mins worth of video, and i time lapsed it on my Mac.. looks amazing.. ill post it in the vid section eventually..

Thanks Chris! Yeah, that's the way the sunset looks almost every day out here, but the sun goes down pretty quick over the mountains and today I was in just the right direction on the highway to get that shot.

So this is a question for anyone I guess. I know there have been a bunch of threads on what kinds of cameras to get or what kind everyone uses. This is a more general question. My pictures are nowhere near the quality of l3it3r's, steveny's, cat the batch's, etc. I have a 4.0 magapixel Olympus D-580 zoom camera. Are their pictures a lot higher quality because they're nicer cameras? I usually have it on decent quality resolution, but not the highest. If I put it on the highest quality resolution will the pictures look closer to their's? Or does it depend on the brand or kind of camera?

put it on high res and find out. That pic that I took has been minorly touched up, but if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. I use a 3.2 MP Sony CyberShot DSC-P71 and a el-cheapo Kodak 3.2 MP digicam to take all of my pics.. so you don't need a friggin D70 to get to that level.. just take the time to figure your hardware out.

Hehe, funny you mention my name because I use a 3.2 MP Sony Cybershot. I recently purchased a 4.0MP Samsung. I don't have any experience with Olympus, sorry.

EDIT: I used the same sony as Chris (cybershot p71)

Also, make sure that you focus on the correct light source... makes a WORLD of difference on the end result.

In case you're wondering, I've taken about 230 pictures today alone. And in the past year and a half, I've taken well over 6500 pictures with my cameras.. (be it the shitty kodak 3.2 MP, the Sony CyberShot which takes nice pics, or what ever DV cam I may have at the moment)

It's all about angle and lighting when it comes to night time photography.. well the same is true for daytime, but it's more apparent at night

ive tried everything dont worry.. i tried diff sizes as well. i used a tripod in other pics and still the same grainy effect, minus the blur from movement.
my cam just sucks at night.... im lookin to get a nikon or something along the lines of that.. i was lookin at the Nikon 8700 on ebay. i think it was 699 buy now with a bunch of extras. 8x optical zoom and a bunch of other cool features.. anyone know of the decency of this cam?
