Some kid in my school wrecked his crossfire like a week ago, hit a curb "doing 80" and totalled it.
They need to be shot. :roll

Crossfire! that car is nice, not to mention exspensive...but back on the topic everytime something bad happens, street racing accident for example, the press blames it on the movies...F&F, TECK(if they happen to see some movies) or some other ricer dvd's. those stupid kids and the story hungry press is what gives this hobby a bad rep...

Yep.
But then its Fall...when the majority of the student population turns 16 and buys their license...so of course the number of accidents from inexperienced drivers are going to rise.
MD needs to overhaul their learners permit program. I remember when I was living in NC I got my learners THE DAY I turned 15. Same thing needs to happen up here in MD....only giving a kid 3 months with a learners and then giving him/her a full license is stupid...the kid needs more time to get experience....AND THE PARENTS NEED TO GIVE IT TO HIM/HER.

Accidents will happen and it will just be someone speeding or somthing and they will say street racing, when it is only one car involved.

They need to put cars in classification by power rating and make the driver pass a test that proves they can drive the car. Sure, build test facilities. I'd rather have young dumbasses speeding around than all these old people that do like 5 MPH in a 2005 Cadillac. I seriously hit the horn for as long as it takes for some slow poke to pull over. I don't have time to drive 3 miles behind someone doing 5. LOL. Sorry... slow people and lane hogs are my pet peeves. Dumb kids that have no respect for their cars or other people suck too. Sure, hauling ass is cool... if you know ur limits and can do it as safe as possible for those around u.

according to bill engvall " there should be a lane on the highway just for teenage driver, lined by nothing but mattresses and tires"
parents shouldnt buy their kids a 300 bhp car for their first car, something big, cumbersome and slow is good first vehicle (91 astro van was how i got my experience. ironically taken out by a punk in a sparlky new civic flying around a blind corner at about 85)
A couple of weeks ago, an accident occured on the intersection of my street and the main road. Here's some pics, as you can see majority were kids, i'm thinking they were in year 11/12.

^ Damn, how many high school girls can fit in a Daihatsu?
I agree that kids should learn in a low power car, but in most cases of kids wrecking their cars it really doesn't matter how much power the car has. People talk about street racing and shit, how often to you see some 16 yr old in a Civic that makes a LOT of power? Probably not as often as you see a 16 yr old in a 130hp Civic. Power does not equal dangerous.
These kids need more experience behind the wheel before being unleashed on their own. Kids should get something before their permit. Some kind of large, special magnet or something can be affixed to the car (like the Wakaba stickers you see on eBay). Those kids should only be allowed to drive their parents cars. There should be set times, like maybe 10AM-3PM to avoid too many people going/coming from work. At least then they have the chance to have 2+ years of training before driving alone.
My first car was an 85 1st gen Escort GL 4-door. 80 horsepower out of a carb'd 1.6L. The thing was slow as funk. It was given to me with 25000 old-lady miles. I appreciated the car a lot. I didn't care that everyone else was faster than me. I had that title in my name. I cried the day I had to confront my great-grandmother and tell her I had totalled her car. I rear-ended some 15 yr old with no license, driving his mom's Thunderbird SC. I worked my ass off to afford a 91 Civic DX, which wasn't much faster.
cliffnotes: Kids should have more training, appreciation.

Anwyays, really it doesn't matter how long you have your learners or whatver its called (when you had to drive with your parents). While driving with them you don't get to learn you limits, your get to accelerate slow, brake real easliy, take corners with little speed. When you drive with your parents, you can't do anything that makes you feel g-force, therefore you can't experience your limits with your learners.
Up here in Ontario we had to have our learners for 1 year, or 8months if we took drivers training which was equivelant to driving with your parents. Once I got rid of my learners and got on the road, basically the first thing I did was go race around like a hot rod in my 4Runner, I was quick finding those limits in all types of weather. Winter driving was exciting as always, with 4x4 you go looking for unplowed roads, then you pass all the cars that are completely stuck because they though there focus would be a good now plow. Meh, im getting off topic, but my point is that no matter how long you have your learners, your still going to drive like a knob once you get out on your own.

I always pushed my moms geo prism a little fast back in the day before I got a car. I was always told not to double declutch becuase she thought it was bad for the engine :nono: lol. Not so true about an suv. I know people who drive old hyundai excels like they are rally cars while people it 2 ton trucks are spinning in circles. lol. First time I went out driving in snow by my self I took an overheating saturn sl1 (had a broken thermostat so no heat) around a very twisty lake road in Mass drifting around corners at 25-30 mph. Nearlly hugged a guard rail a few times but I learned alot about handling and the limits of the car as well as my driving. Driving on the snow directly relates to the pavement. If you can navigate in snow, you will be a much better driver overall. The way in which you loose traction at high speeds is about that same as lower speeds in the snow. I think at the very least new drivers should have to take traction control courses. If you cannot take a car out of a skid, or or effectivly use an e-brake as a driving tool, you should not be on the road. And how many people know the difference between driving front wheel drive and rearwheel drive in the snow :dot1:

Well cars do have classification numbers for insurance purposes based on the likeliness that car will be involved in an accident based on performance and the age group of people who buy them most frequently, ei 16-18, 19-22, 23-25. When I was looking for insurance I found out that the Mitsu Galant was one of the lowest rated cars, older people buy them and dont crash, therefore, dirt cheap insurance, while the Integra was one of the absolute highest rated cars...high school kids can afford them and 70% of the time, crash them. But I also agree about testing drivers more rigorously than we are tested now. Driving tests are a fucking joke IMO.

got my permit when i turned 16, December 16th. So i got to drive around in the snow most of the time. So i think i learned really good about being in control and out of control. My dad used to take me to empty snow covered lots and let me use the E-Brake. I think i learned alot really quick. Then i got a 94 Grand am GT witch i loved untill the engine blow. But it wasn't my car it was my brothers and mine. So when i got to drive it i didn't fool around because it wasn't mine. Then i got in a wreck while sitting shotgun and that was a reality check. Then a couple of my friends got there licences taken away for going like 90mph in a 45 and that did it for me. I very rarely go over 80mph anymore, my dad has put so much fear in me that i never want to come home in a cop car or tow truck ever in my life. I really think that the parents have alot to do with how a kid drives, and yes so does F&F.

Just saying if someone came up to you and saw Wildman on your licences plate they are going to think better stay out of his way.
These things will never happen you no that so you shouldn't be all that mad about it. I am only 18 and i drive with friends all the time and i hate it. They think ok i've seen it in the movies i can do that in my ford Tempo. If you are on this forum then you probably no what you are doing behind the wheel. I would trust my friends more if they drove a 350z. They stick to the pavement better than a Tempo ar a Blazer. Don't get all upset because like it or not people do judge poeple by what the see. If the see WILDCHILD they are going to think bad thoughts its just how this world is.

Driving tests are a fucking joke IMO.
Fine example- my ex gf didn't get it until the 3rd try if I remember right. 1st time, she was pissed b/c they told her to make a left on a 1 way street that went right. She did, and they yelled for her to pull over and go back. Failed immediately. (LOL, it was wrong, but it's funny to me now) You should have like 2 tries per 6 months. F some 1 try per 24 hours. Anyone will eventually get it right. Just like any test that remains the same.
I know another girl that seriously had to take it like 6-7 times!!! And she went every 24 hours. I don't agree with this. Hell, if you fail 1 time, you should have to keep your permit a month longer to practice or something. It's not strict at all.
They asked the girl I know to parallel park between 2 mail boxes. Over the curb and into someone's yard she went. Some people just don't get it... and those are the ones that need to be kept off the road for as long as possible!

I passed mine the first try... in a manual car too. In fact, I learned driving in a stick from day one which I believe really made me a better driver. I used to have a hard time driving automatics for drivers ed because I would try to downshift and end up doing some kind of accidental rally style left foot breaking maneuver while stopping. I think you’re more alert of what is going on on the road if you drive a manual.

In NJ we have some course that takes about 2 minutes to do and it is nothing like real life driving at all. You can only go 15 mph and if you fail it you have to wait a week to take it again. It is actually so easy that it is hard. I have a couple friends who are good drivers and failed it cause you have to go so slow and stop for like 5 seconds and stuff, when of course the overly cautious girls and stuff that seem to always get into accidents pass the thing cause they are use to driving ridiculously slow and like stopping for 10 seconds at a stop sign.

The world is full of bad drivers young or not, you won't be able to escape them. When I turned 16 I got my license and dad bought me a 1974 Dodge Charger and my friend had a 1969 Chevelle neither of us got in a single accident, and we did our share of messing around of course it was out in the middle of nowhere it was never in the city. When we drove around in the city thats all we would do...drive. We would just side by side drive down the city doing the speed limit. As Civics and other little cars would pass us thinking they were all faster then us because they had a F&F decal on their car.
Here in Oregon you aren't aloud to drive with anyone under the age of 21 or whos not part of your family for the first 6 months then after that theres still more restrictions. I don't feel it works because kids still will have other kids in their cars even though the peneltys are stiff if you get caught driving with someone.

My friend and I took his dads H2 out once and went off roading. But the thing is, even if we were to get caught he wouldn't care so I guess he lended it to us even though we never asked for it lol. On top of that its amazing the kind of deals you get @ Dunkin Doughnuts @ 3 am. I don't know if the guy was more amazed by the fact we had a brand new H2 (its when they first came out) or the fact that it was 3 am and we were asking for the 3 am special lol.

Thats the point if they can drive an automatic then wont be able to drive a stick which means they will fail their test. Driving an automatic is too easy put it on the [D] mark then push the gas. im not saying that driving a stick makes a good driver ,no, but it does keep people thinking about what they are doing and being an active driver rather than a passive driver.
