How does it work? What is its purpose? Does anybody ever use it?

I use it. It basically means nothing, just something to play around with. You can see your commentary in your UserCP.

ummm....when i go to user cp, i see the total rep points...then right under that is shows me my comments w/ the thread, date and time, and the actual comment....das all

Somebody has to give you reputation. You click the scale under whoever you want to give rep to. It comes up in a pop-up. You check either the positive rep or the negative rep choices and leave a comment if you wish.

I think it's for the quality of your posts. More rep means your posts are contributing to the quality of the threads. Or you said something somebody liked. Or they just wanna rep you for the sake of it.
