View Full Version : DO NOT BUY THE PS3...

well, at least, don't buy the 'cheap' one. It will NOT have HDMI output which will not allow you to watch BlueRay dvds in 1080p once the protection software is put in place by the movie studios.. rendering your PS3 no better than a game machine that plays standard resolution dvds. Spend the extra $100 when you preorder/buy. :thankyou:

Yup, that is correct. I should have posted that warning. If you are going to get the ps3 get the one worth your money.

i had planned on getting the more expensive one to begin with, for the extra 100 dollars your better off to get the better one...Atleast thats what i figured and now i can see that it is deff worth it.

IMHO, sony should just nix the $499 version, dedicate the money saved, and make a $550 version that has all options.
this thing is gonna be so expensive. i dont think im gonna be able to put my money into that then spend more money and games and accessories.

personally, unless my job gets a serious raise, I'll be just getting the Nintendo Wii and a bunch of games for now.. I'll eventually have all of them (it's a sickness) but not right at first.

is the PS3 going to be like Xbox 360, where you will need a HD TV to get the good graphics?? Not even sure if thats true about 360, just something i remember hearing.
l3it3r
05-20-2006, 03:31 PM
xbox360 does need to have an HDTV to truly take advantage of the graphics (textures, etc are all rendered in two different ways, one for standard def, and one for high def)

i figured PS3 will be just like that...The TV in my room isnt an HD TV :(
ill have to go out and spend like 500-600 on PS3 and then like 1500 on an HD TV
Being in debt, its the American way :woo:

Essentially it dosent matter which one you get, but if you want HD capability anytime in the near future make the right decision.

and that is if HDCP isnt farked over. Microsoft might have to stretch it wallet out and backhand hollywood into dropping it entirely. Cause when you think about it, they are totally fucked over by this. So Sony might luck out and not have to worry at all.
Digital Sol

The cheaper one still has HD capability, just when playing blu-ray movies it has to transmit a bunch of bs authorizations through the cables, hence the need for cables that can do that (HDMI). So if hollywood puts its cock back in its pants after microsoft backhands them (360 dosent have HDCP capabilities built in (no HD-DVD drive either, so double fucked) then no one will have to worry at all.

I just seen a clip of the E3 video and they are gonna give you a choice of the Banana shaped controller or the one that looks like the dual shock 2 version.

if this blue ray disc thing takes off, a $599 ps3 is a bargain. stand-alone blue ray disc players will be (or are) selling for $1000 or more. plus, with the amount of technology being put into the ps3, sony will be selling each unit for a loss. microsoft did the same with the first xbox and xbox360, and the same will happen with ps3. they only start to make money a long time after the launch when the costs of making the machine go down.

Blueray is crap. HD DVD FTW!
l3it3r
06-03-2006, 12:58 PM
actually, I'd say that blueray is better in every way, except that it's made by sony. They couldn't agree on small matters..
Blueray has better throughput, more storage, and can be writeable immediately (unlike dvd which took quite a while to get consumer recorders to market)

The fact that its better in a good amount of ways is definitely nice.

Blu-ray, unlike HD DVD, requires a hard coating on its discs because it’s 0.5m closer to the surface. The polymer coating it uses, called Durabis, was developed by TDK and is supposedly extremely resilient and fingerprint resistant.
I have personally seen tests of this and I am willing to pay more for the discs because of this feature alone.... take a DVD, and take a bluray disc, scratch both with steel wool, dvd farked, bluray disc FINE!! not to mention the holding capacity difference.

I'll definitely be sitting back with my PS2, picking up a Wii, and waiting for a couple years for consumers to kill either HD DVD or Bluray, or both. I can't freakin afford a $600 system with games that can't be sold or purchased used.

Probably only if they still smell like the box, like all news games do, so Sony knows you paid for a new game. :jackoff:

same here.. $599 is :banghead: I'm still not 'desiring' a 360 yet.. nothing on it MAKES me want is. However, Zelda, Mario, Resident Evil and all the other games that nintendo has ever made, no to mention Turbo Grafx and Genesis games.. the Wii will get my $200 or so when it debuts.

I will have to play a Wii before I choose to buy it, simply because of the controller. But the ps3 I am buying either at launch or shortly after.

The only 2 things I am gonna hate and will turn me away from buying a PS3 is....
1. The Vibration option is no more. Some guy bought the rights to it so Sony can no longer use it. Is what I heard from the E3 expo.
2. The controller is gonna be just Like the Wii where you tilt it or turn it. I don't play games like most people do and turn the controller or shake it or raise it up and down when playing a game. I just press it against my stomach and keep it tight so I can feel the 4 motors in my big oversized controller. I got it off Ebay and it's made by Game Shark. It has a program option for 22 buttons to asign moves to. Also it has Auto-Fire which comes in handy on Resident Evil and War games.

actually i think the tilt action to control steering or whatever is optional on the ps3 controller, i think you can still use the thumbsticks or buttons to control direction. i doubt sony would pull a complete 360 (no pun intended) on the way their controls work. tilt action is simply an option some people will choose to use.
Sephy
06-11-2006, 01:19 AM
Yeah I think the tilt will be able to turn on and off. At least, I HOPE so. Gay that they won't be dual shock though...
