I got to run an SRT-10 Quad Cab at the Midnight Drags in Tulsa a couple of weeks ago. I work at a Dodge Dealership and I wanted to see what this truck could do. Now I know it was a quad cab and not really a fair match up but I was very disappointed in it. I watched him make two passes and both times he was at about 14.80's. I expected more out of that truck. Well, I got lined up with him and my truck just jumped him off the line and pulled on him the entire time. One of these days I'll get to race a Reg Cab at the track.

In case you were wondering I got a 13.42 that night. I forgot to reprogram my shift points for racing and was running on the daily driving program.

Sorry, no vids.

the SRT sounds mean as hell

Those trucks are badass, that's why I couldn't figure out why the truck was only running 14.80's. He was spinning a bit but he still should've run faster than that.

the quad cab only runs in the low 15s and does 0-60 in almost 7secs..The reg cab runs high 13s, almost 14 flat and does 0-60 in the mid 5s.

yeah, they should run better for what they have. im not a fan, but i love lightnings, so much more potential and a lot nicer.

That would explain quite a bit.

14.8 still isnt bad for a huge ass quad cab

Damn I wish we got the SRT-10 RAM :(

That would explain quite a bit.

From what I've been told by a friend with one, the only way to get traction is to put drag tires on it...

That would probably explain the other part.

I was just surprised because I figured the trucks would be faster than a Harley Supercrew. I raced a Harley truck when I first got my Lightning and the Harley truck ran a 14.6 and I ran a 13.8. My best so far has been a 13.22

I don't think they make drag tires for it, do they?

dodge hasnt quite figured out the concept of power to weight. lightnings own srt-10s all day every day!

want to know a simple weight reduction on the Ram? replace the bed lid with a PLASTIC one, it's STEEL.. heavy as hell.

LOL.....nice kill, and in all fairness, there should be a AT srt10 reg cab for you to match against.....and who was it that kept saying I was dumb for saying the lightning is an overall better truck?

Here's the thing about the lightnings... We are very limited to wheel and tire sizes. A Stock SRT10 vs Stock Lightning the SRT10 will edge it out. I do like the Lightning and have nothing against them. The reason I bought the SRT10 is it's something different I like living outside the box and owning something you don't see on the street everyday. There's 4 lightnings in the town I live in and I'm the only SRT10. The lightning is alot easier to mod and cheaper. Anything to do with the SRT10 costs twice as much....

Ahh, I wish there were lightnings in my home of 600 people....heck, there is already one srt10, a 750hp duramax, and several vettes. It is funny whenever I go past the place with the srt10, I swear the house looks less than the truck.....lol

true, i like to hear someone acknowledge something like that. many dodge/chrysler fans will defend their cars to the death, even when numbers prove them wrong.

WizzySRT10 is right. When my truck was stock, I couldn't keep up with SRT-10's. I had to get a programmer and even then I was running even with one on the highway. Well since then I've changed the pulley and had it dyno-tuned. I've dropped over a full second in my quarter mile times for well less than a thousand bucks. They are fairly cheap to modify at first. Now comes the expensive mods.

The Lightning is a wicked truck in a 1/4 mile... And the SRT10's strong point is top end.... The Lightning is quicker and the SRT10 is Faster.... The Lightning is a great truck and we're in the same ball game 'cause the areodynamics on both suck...

The problem with the SRT-10 is exactly what makes it so cool IMO -- tire-frying torque w/ a manual trans. It's hard to hook up 500 lbs of torque off the line on street tires, no matter how big they are. Plus, pick-ups are light in the rear anyway. Probably why they put a steel bad cover on it lol.

Having said that, the Lightning is a formidable opponent. It's mod-motored, so it has good high rpm power, and the blower makes up for any lack of bottom end power. Automatic makes it easy to hook up, and it's a short bed stepside, lighter than most other trucks. Ford seems to have done pretty well on the suspension too, you almost never see one spin off the line, not much anyway.

In the end both are cool, just built with different ends in mind. Do a highway run or roll from 35-45 mph and see what happens.

How's this an improvement lol I'm dating a chick and her bro owns one of the Lightnings in town. lol I get to ride in both SRT10 and the Lightning all the time!!! I was really impressed riding in the Lightning how easily it launches compared to mine. I have to hit a perfect rev everytime off the line. And putting down to the ground 460 rw ft lbs is kinda tough to do with a Manual tranny. My g/f's brother wants to put a Tremec T56 in his Lightning seeing how much fun my truck is to drive. The other day me and him were out terrorizing a few Camaro's and Mustangs and my g/f called me and asked me what I was doing I told her where I was and what we were doing she said she could hear my truck from like 5 miles away and knew it was me.

Now maybe when my truck is payed off I might get a Lightning too and have two bad trucks. Both of them being built up so no one knows what they're going to be getting themselves into.

I might have to do that too. I would love to have an SRT-10 Ram sitting next to my L in the garage.

I can't argue with you too much there. I would love to get my hands on a Syclone or a Typhoon.

I do love my truck though. I decided to stop on an empty road on the way home and light up the tires. I just stomped on the throttle from a stop and they were spinning until I hit 70mph. I need new tires soon. :club:

The 87 Buick Grand National/GNX is my dream car so I do love the Typhoons and Syclones but they both have problems with the 4.3 Turboed v6 in them. They're kinda week. But they are very impressive vehicles...

come on, a hemi truck. can you even make those as fast a stock lightning? and dont challenge people to races in the future.

uh.... stock reg cab/short bed hemi's can run mid-high 14's stock..... i know a couple people who have done that..... and put bolt ons and you are right there with a stock lightning..... but i do agree to no bench racing...

also i used to be on dtw....

ummm what about the SSr anyone have one of those? have ya'll compared them to lightenings and srt10s? just curious, i have driven the SSR but not the SRT or the lightening. was it just my imagination or was the SSR alot of fun to drive?

WizzySRT10
06-04-2006, 06:32 PM
The SSR is a better truck for cornering then the SRT10 but still the SRT10 can hold it's own at a road corse....I'm not sure about the Lightning I'll have to drive my g/f's brothers...

ssr? hahahaha, i am sorry, if you want a performance truck from chevy, go with the ss silverado, and even then, those aren't really fast

dkbmxer002
06-04-2006, 08:55 PM
the ssr with the ls2 i think is high 13's and the 5.3 is like 15's or 16's. the ss silverado is only like high 14's......

I don't mind racing as long as it's for fun. However we are a little ways apart from each other.

SS silverado, meh not as much HP as the others, and auto FTL. I would prolly take the LS2 SSR w/6spd over both the lightning and the silverado SS

I agree with you on the taking the SSR over the Silverado SS but not the Lightning. You can build a lightning really cheap and to last too.

seriously, the gibbs owns all. its quicker than a lightning and the interior qyality is top notch. either that or a 4 cylinder toyota pickup, i owned a 94 that could through the quarter mile before it hit 60. and also, i used to stomp hemi shortbeds in my stock 96 cadillac deville and it was maybe a 15sec car. magazine testing has shown the titan to be faster.

only reason i would take the SSR over lightning it because it has a manual tranny.

WizzySRT10
06-08-2006, 11:13 AM
If I bought a Lightning I'd put in a T56 tranny like what my SRT10 has...
