Last Wednesday I went to some streetraces and raced:
1st. Late 80s or early 90s Civic Hatch - Won by about 15 lengths
2nd. Same car with about 4 length handicap - won by about 10 lengths
3rd. Newer Camry that beat my Stude the week before - won by about 6 lengths
4th. Newer VW Jetta 1.8T that gave me an 8 length handicap - I got wasted by like 8 lengths
And tonight at the races I raced a mid 90s Civic HB with an H22 and he played with me the whole way down and beat me by about 1 length due to him pussy-footing it... lol
Keep in mind my 78 Olds 442 has like a 2.41 gear ratio with the 350 Chevy Small Block... And an auto at that.. But it was fun...

this is kinda unrelated, but bare with me. My aunt's boyfriend and i are restoring his olds 442, although this is a 4-speed. I was working on it with him last weekend and we were debating the 1/4 mile times the car is capable of. Since were restoring it, neither of us has ever driven it :loser: I say its a 12 second car, he says high 13s. Even if you've never been to a strip, what do you think the car is capable of? Thanks for help in resolving the bet.

ok dude, were gonna need a lot more info. what year is it? what engine does it have? how built up is the engine? what is the rear axle ratio? how good of a driver is he? Give us this, and we can get you a decent estimate.

gregory, that is pretty good. And I wouldn't use a 700r4.....they are junk since tpi motors can kill them. stick with the th350 and th400.....you wont hate yourself.....and I would say 3.55's at the most......:)
And if a 442 is to be a high 12-low 13 sec car, it has to be either a late 60's early 70's with the quick gears, 455, 4bbl carb, 4 sp, posi( which the last 3 are how it got it's name....lol)

it was 4 speed tranny, 4 barrel carb, and 2 exhaust.
stock, the 700R4 wasnt that bad, but yes it was kinda weak. You can however get one for pretty cheap that has decent strength. if you want strong tranny, get a 4l80e, but the electronics would be hard to deal with, and from what you have told me before its outa ur budget

Yeah, that really would depend on the motor/year and stuff. Gear ratio would be helpful to give ya an idea...
One thing I didn't remember until now is with the 442 of mine is:
Oil
PREMIUM Fuel
As much as I love the tall gears for the highway it would be kinda nice to have the acceleration for the quartermile... Although a close gear ratio 4spd or 5spd would work...

You positive on that, I may have to look it up to double check......most cars in the 60's had dual exhaust anyways, some had posi, most didn't.......I still am thinking it was for 4 barrel, 4 sp, and posi........lol. I shall search, then we decide who is right......:D

It varied through the years... Early on it was 400ci, 4spd, 2 exhaust, then later it was 4spd, 4bbl, 2 exhaust...

Went to the races again tonight and killed a 97 Acura Integra 2dr LS... It was a buddy of mine and he was surprised a little... Gave a good run though...

u got that backwards...in 1964 it was 4 spd, 4bbl, 2 exhaust. In 1965 it went to 400CI, 4bbl, 2 exhaust. Then in '85-'87 they put 305's in them(maybe 307's) and it was 4bbl carb, 4 speed tranny(700R4 or 200R4). Finally in the early 90's, they had a POS one that was 4 cylinders, 4 valves/cylinder, and 2 camshafts

it's a 68 i believe (definatly late 60's), i don't know the gear ratio on the rear end, it came with the car stock and we havn't put a new one on. The motor is completly stock, as this will be more of a cruzing and show car than a racer. I don't think he has any drag racing experience at all lol. Its the 400, ci, 4 barrel, 2 exhaust motor. (not the original one)

ehhh...well with that, i doubt he will do much better than 14's. I dont know the power rating for that year, but no experience, the gear ratio isnt that high, and a very heavy car add up to not super fast times...

Well my 68 Charger 440R/T will only run mid 13's. Maybe low 13's with a better driver....LOL
So not sure, but I would say high 13's at best.. More than likely low 14's though.
