This modification will work with all VTEC equipped models, SOHC and DOHC. It is simpler then the ones I've seen on the net as you don't use a relay in the circuit.

Parts and tools needed; Phillips screw drivers (one short, one regular length), 12V LED light, Wire Connectors, Soldering gun, Wire cutters/strippers, 16 or 18 gauge wire, Shrink tubing, Modeling knife, 10mm socket and extension, Small flat screw driver.

Prepare the LED by cutting some wire about 6 inches or so in length, and solder it to the leads from the LED. Use some shrink tubing to cover over the soldered leads. Your now done with this part.

Remove the speedo assembly by taking out the screws above the dash pod, then lay it on the top of the dash. Next remove the screws that hold the pod in, pull it out, then disconnect the wiring harnesses and remove the pod from the dash. In a well lit area, look at the back of the pod, you will see above the cruise control light area, an uncut hole. Using a modeling knife cut out the hole, this is where you will mount the LED. You can also drill a hole for the LED to sit in the steering column covering. Carefully disassemble the front of the dash pod by lifting the tabs with a small screw driver, remove the one screw that holds the bracket on the top. Remove the front face plate then remove the bezel cover, under that you will see a small plastic cover, remove that so you can install the led through the hole you cut in the back. Install the LED through the hole and tighten the nut on the back to hold it in place. Put the plastic cover back on that you removed earlier. Then put the dash pod back together. Add the connectors to the wires on the LED leads at this time. Your now done with this part.

Wiring the ECU and ground wire by removing the big plastic screw that holds the carpet at the top under the dash. Pull back the carpet so you can remove the bolts that hold the ECU to the kick panel. Remove the cover, lift blue tabs and slide up on the wiring harness to remove them. Pull the ECU up and out so you can see the wiring at the bottom. You will be tapping in to the wire on A4 which is on the bottom row, second from the front, (It was orange with a white stripe on mine, there may be some variation in colors for some years). Using a tap connect, tap the wire. Then put the wiring harness back on the cover, put the cover back on the ECU running the new wire behind the wiring harness out the top. Bolt the ECU back in. Run the wire along the top at the back of the dash and under and behind the console. With that done put the carpet back and your done with that side. For the ground wire I used the bolt that holds the inside hood opener, then ran it up and out to the opening for the dash pod behind the wiring harness. The power wire that you pushed through run that up the side out of the way of the gas pedal and use wire ties to hold it to the metal bar then up and out the opening for the dash pod. Now you can cut off the extra wire, leaving some slack and put on the connectors. Now you can put the dash pod back in, attaching/plugging in the wires for your new LED, then attach the dash pod wiring. Put the screws back in and your done.

Now for the fun, start and drive your car till it warms up then hit the gas to bring it into VTEC and the light should come on. If not check your work over for shorts/bad connections. Remember the VTEC Light will only work if the car is moving, you just can't rev the engine to make it come on. At least 11 mph for the Auto, 15 to 25 mph for the manual models and the engine at operating temperature. Enjoy and have fun with your new mod, it looks really great at night.

Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control....fancy term for "I have an engine"

Just kidding guys.....just a little sillyness!!!!! I still  you

Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control. basicly it allow the engine to run on two different types of settings from the same cam. there are two smaller cam lubes around one larger one, when the engine is a low RPM the two smaller cam lubes open and close the valves, but once a higher RPM is reached a piston in the valve rockers locks all three rocker arms into one allowing the larger cam lube to hold open the valves longer at high RPMs to allow more fuel air mixture into the cylinder.

I-Vtec is Intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control. what that does is will only turn Vtec on when its needed e.i. you open the throttle all the way

interesting.. are the honda nsx's vtec or ivtec?

the NSX in 1989 was the first production car with Vtec in it, and anything close to it. and to this date they are DOHC Vtec.

O.K. We're getting way outta line from the original post. And further more..... I'm just gonna take advantage of that to add my own nonsense.
So check it out, see. I own two SOHC Honda's. I was on a Honda forum a bit ago and saw the funniest bit. This kid had taken out his SOHC VTEC motor and swapped it for the LS DOHC in his Civic. His signature in the forum was
SOHC my DOHC
Being a Honda fanatic, myself, I thought that was the funniest shit ever.

no offense to u street or anything cuz i know ur engine is just 30times better than my y8...but isnt SOHC vtec shit? like honestly i hear a change and i see my gas needle drop considerably and thats it car doesnt move faster...just seems like it was put in the SOHC engines as a joke so they could raise the price...
