One of my friends who works at ebgames (manager) has said that sony has stated (only to the retailers, not public) a release date of early or mid november of this year for the ps3. He said that it is unofficial to the public, but sony wouldnt tell them this info unless it was highly possible. So look for it to be released then. No official word on price yet, but expect $499. It will be a loss of profit in hardware for them, but they will hope to make up the difference in software sales.
I doubt it. Any info, even given to the retailers would leak out into the public within a day anyways. No offense.

Sony blew it by not being out with 360 and then agin by pushing the date back and then yet one more time by charging 500 bucks for a video game system. 500 is a little to much just to play video games and DVD's.

No, microsoft blew it by releasing too soon. The 360 was just a hotrodded xbox, not really using any new technology. Between the blueray technology and the graphics driver in the ps3 that alone is more innovation put into one system than the 360. Microsoft should have waited till they had a very capable, innovative machine. I predict this is going to be a repeat of the Dreamcast episode. Sega jumped the gun and released it too soon, before the competition released with better technology. Sony and microsoft jumped in and all of a sudden your systems could play dvds, the games were better because of the dvd tech involved, and the graphics were more top notch because the drivers were more advanced. I dont know how many times I have wanted my dreamcast to play dvds. I got my ps2 that plays dvds, but it would have helped the system sell if the technology was more advanced.
Also, the blueray technology drivers cost about $1000 and that is just the disc software reader. So they are going to be losing a lot of money on this system, but it will raise a profit through software.

Meh I think both are a waste of money, I'm happy with my 100 dollar Xbox and I will end up getting a 360 when they come down in a few years.

I have not heard of a lot of new people buying 360's. I know maybe 1 person that bought one since the initial release bananza.
and Blu-ray pwns...
you can take steel wool to the discs and they wont scratch.
(Japanese tech expo had a demo of it)

They also hold a shitload of info. And the price of that technology will come down once it becomes more widespread. Also, Sony doesn't even know when the PS3 is coming out. I can wait, it'll be worth it. When it gets here it gets here. And I will have one eventually. Sony, take your time.

haha no they didnt. Remember that the Xbox came out way later then the PS2? And the Xbox sold better.
that's how it happens. When the PS3 comes out, the Xbox360 will be in a way disregarded as old news as the PS2 was. Plus the PS3 now knows EXACTLY what the 360 is made of. So how could it possibly be hard for them to make theirs better?

If the PS3 is going to be 500 bucks and is going to be released in Novemeber, I think they are going to blow it. I bet the 360 drops in price by at least 50 bucks making it 349 apposed to the PS3 499. Now if you were a parent and going to buy you kid something for Xmas, I'm pretty sure you couldn't justify a 500 buck video game system.
But I think Sony lost a lot of sales by not coming out when the 360 did. But then again, we live in America and the Xbox sells better here, but in Japan its just the opposite. Guess it depends on where you are.
I personally don't like what the PS3 has to offer (from what I've read), I could care less about blue ray and the only game that would get my attention is GT5.
I'll stick to my computer games though, they look better, feel better, and there is a bigger selection.
