wax and other substances leave a coat of grease and dirt over the clear coat of your car, i used this product called "mothers Clay" which i bought at Wal-Mart. it comes with a bar of clay that when used with a lubricant(comes with the kit) takes all the dirt off when the clay is rubbed on the paint. i noticed detailers in LA have been using this product for awhile.
try this website-mothers clay (http://www.mothers.com/products/) click paint care and scroll down.

Yeah and you're one to talk lol.

Clay is always good to use, but I can't use it properly... I gave up using it. My paint is good enough anyway, so I don't really need it :)

So would this help out a maaco job? Obviously it wont make it show quality but will it help it out alot?

nothing can help a macco job, you are better off dipping a broom in a bucket of paint and just rubbing that on your car that going to macco.

I use the Mothers Clay.......it was a lot easier than I thought and the car was so smooth when I put my bag on the hood like I usually do it slid off before I could even catch it! :)

Don't use this shit on fresh paint. I have to get new clear. I'm embarassed to park under street lights. And yes, I kept it soaked, didn't bear down hard, and I folded often. Mothers clay leaves the car smooth, and it looks great... from about 10 feet away. Get close, at an angle, or under a street light 1 night. LOTS and LOTS of fine scratches. Clay bars will never touch my car again.

not supposed to use it on fresh paint, clear, etc...the bar removes the grease that builds up over time, along with wax residue and other materials. when a car has fresh paint thats when you use a wax to protect it.

WRONG!! you never wax fresh paint, after you get a car, or anything else painted, you MUST wait at lease 3 weeks untill you use any kind of wax on the car. when a car is painted there are millions of tiny bullbes of gas in the paint/clear, as the paint fully hardens (whitch can take as long as a month) the gas bubbles escape. if you apply wax to fresh paint the gases cannot escape the paint and will cause you paint to bubble and/or flake off.

trust me on this, i am going to school right now learning auto body/auto painting.

all these "serious detailers" told me it would make my new paint so much deeper. It really does look badass from far away, but I hate that I "ruined my clear." It's not horrible. I still win some pretty big local shows, and I placed at Battle of the Imports... but I hate that I had badass clear and F'd it up. Oh well... inspiration to add shit when the clear is sanded down.

just get some meguiars rubbing compound, #3, and #7 and it should fix your clear up real nice. just use a buffer and hit it with some rubbing compound, then buffer and #3, then rub the #7 on by hand wait like 5 min. then wipe it off (kinda like wax)

Ok my car's paint is ten years old... And the paint (black if it matters) on the roof is fading FAST. What do I use? I mean, I've used 3 kinds of wax, nothin. I need some hardcore shit to get this off, didn't know if anybody had suggestions.

When you clay your car you have first make sure it is completely clean if it is not your clay bar turns into a sanding block, which is why you need to fold your bar over on its self often but if the car is dirty even thsi wont help. After i bought my car (nov 03) i waited months to even wash it, mostly becasue it was cold but mainly to let the paint cure, even if i wasnt driving it i would back it out of the garage just to park it in the sunlight. When it came time to wash the car i washed it twice with dawn dish soap to strip off any wax and crap on the car then I clayed the whole car as per the directions then i washed again with Dawn. Then again with zaino car wash then i put 4 layers of zaino on the car. Smooth as glass!

Yeah I think if you read the directions and read a tutorial by someone who really knows there shit, claying does not have to scratch your car, but people are impatient and dont want to go through all that.....But I'm all for it and when I get up the energy, I'm doing it again

meguiars #3 with a buffing wheel, and then #7 by hand, but don't burn your paint with the buffing wheel
