Embarrassing moment as a patrol driver tonight... I was going up a hill and made it about half way up... I go to turn around in a driveway and as I turn and brake, the car (a 2002 Toyota Corolla CE) slides backwards and the nose goes towards the ditch... I go to reverse and the nose won't do anything but go further towards the ditch on the passengerside, and the ass kept going towards it... I call a couple towing companies and NO-ONE was running in South... NO-ONE would come out there... I get out of the car and slid 30ft down the hill and had to crawl back to the car.......... I eventually get a site officer to come out and he had to push the rearend back in to the road by hand and we spun the car so it was facing downhill...... I wish my POS s-10 Blazer was running... I miss my 4WD... :madfawk:FWD I'm A:moron:Today I guess........

I feel your pain....2 years ago I was going about 15mph around a turn in a 35mph zone, hit some black ice and slid into a ditch along a chain-link fence. Ended up being $1,800 in body damage.

FWD, RWD or AWD...They all suck on ice..Its ice, i hope you arent expecting any kind of car to do good, unless it has chains or studs

Front wheel drive sucks on ice?

I belive you mean rear wheel sucks on ice, front wheel it has the engine weighing down the front providing traction while rear wheel you slip and slide.

Too much HP maybe :D Just kidding!!!
I've been driving some small trucks on snow and ice als, RWD one, automatic and V8 (brand : "a fuck Ford" Birdman.......... Got some news of him BTW???) That really sucks, but it make me a good training, now I might be able to do Formula D.
the best on snow AWD then FWD, just be gentle with the gaz pedal, and prefer a manual to an automatic, you got a better power control between the clutch and the gaz pedal

lol, I noticed this just around thanksgiving with my sis's slocus...it is way too light to drive on ice. I prefer rwd over everything else on ice due to slide control( I can at least steer with the back) plus it always makes you a much better driver. I like the sable, but it really sucks going from pavement to ice on country roads. I am going to find out how quick it is this next year at the dragstrip. by the it will have a few things done to it. Anyways, Everything does suck on ice. We have 2rwds, 2fwds, and 3 4wds....and I can get them all stuck if I want to....lol. I got my dad's 87 f150 stuck on ice last year, since I was trying to plow the road, and just took my traction away....we had to get out the tractor to get it. You cannot get traction on ice unless, as 2fnlow stated, you have studs or chains....which both ruin roads and tires. My advice, don't go up hills, don't drive fast, and drive with common sense on ice!!!!!

FWD sucks in any weather, but here's chunky's tip-o-the day: keep a bag or 2 of rock salt and a small shovel in your trunk. if your car is RWD you probably have some sort of weight back there anyway why not use salt. i have 2 50lb bags in my trunk, one over eact wheel. so if you get stuck on ice, use the shovel to mave any snow in front of the tires and to break the ice up if possible. Open a bag, throw some salt down on the ice in front of your drive wheels. Salt about 4-6 feet in the direction you want to go. wait 15-20 min and SLOWLY give the car gas, once it hits the salted area it sould grip enough to get it moving. once the car is moving, SLOWLY drive till you are off the ice.

Good tip, I just don't drive my car on snow and ice, right now I just drive a lowered dime in teh snow, but I will definately do this when I go back to school.

nice tip..I use to do that awhile ago..But the shovel and salt were taking up room for the system...So i ditched that stuff for the system...You always gotta stick with the beats...Atleast if i got stuck, i was able to bump to some beats to keep me busy until somebody came to pull me out..

two words for you all "snow tires". Yes nothing works well on ice but I bet my car with the snow tires is better.
