View Full Version : System of a Down
Any hardcore System of a Down fans on here? I love their stuff....I have been a fan since their self-titled cd came out in 2000. I've seen them in concert and they're fuckin amazing live.
Their new cd lives lives up to expections and I am very happily pleased to buy the cd. Any other SOAD fans on here?

im a fan, cant say im a hardcore fan though. I have all their stuff though. Saw them on MTV tonight doing a concert.
I was gonna watch the $2 bill tour, but that shit was only 1/2 hour. Fuck that. It's just not the same after you've seen them play for over an hour on stage, and they weren't even the headlining band.

Fan right here. I love how they've evolved. Can't wait to see how they manage to turn Lonely Day into a single...wouldn't be my first choice but they've done it before.

I'm a pretty big SOAD fan. I used to be a pretty hardcore fan of them. Now I'm starting to fade but still love their music, I'm just into softer stuff now. There 2 new albums are very good, but also different. The songs are more repetitive and more pop-like. And don't deny that they are, because they are. SOAD was going for more singals and more popularity, and I hope they tune back into themselves for the next CD. I'm nervous about the direction they're headed in.
I've been a fan since 2001, I started listening to them just before Toxicity and Chop Suey got really popular. Toxicity and the Self-Titles Albums are my favorite. Didn't the self-titled one come out earlier, like in 1998 labeled Sugar? Then I think they re-released it in 2001 as self-titled. Correct me if I'm wrong.

For any of you who didn't know, the reason the two latest CD's, Mezmerize and Hypnotize (which is 1 album), are different than the others is because Daron Malakian was much more involved than the others. Usually, Serj would be more involved in the lyrics and the construction of the song, but this time around Daron took over and pretty much did the whole thing, from the guitar tabs, bass tabs, drums, to the lyrics, to the actual studio production. He pretty much built the whole album. Actually, during recording, Daron played the bass in 90% of the songs (along with playing the guitar) rather than Shavo. Shavo wasn't used to Daron's style yet and wasnt ready to play them by the time they needed to record. But he has learned it in order to play in concert.
just a little fyi
System of a Down is still in my top 5

I think it did come out in 1998. They had a demo or something called Sugar EP....
Also, didn't Shavo write most of Dreaming? I think I recall an article saying that he was a major part in the construction of that song...in any case, he's a great man...every concert last year, he lit up a fatty right on stage. :D He wasn't the only one, of course...jeez, I've never seen (or felt) such a haze of weed in an arena like Continental Airlines...good times. heh

Yeah I did hear that Shavo took a huge roll in about for of the songs on Mezmerize & Hypnotize, and one of them more than the others, which was probably "Dreaming" as you said.

Has anyone watched the Lonely Day video that just came out today? I love SOAD and I support them 100%, but...I can't bring myself to say anything about the video. It's so...basic. I don't get the whole thing with the fire...oh well. Discuss. :D Apparently they have a "big announcement" for Monday.

haha I found myself saying the exact same thing. I understand that they definately have a reason behind the fire, but they needed to dress up the video a little better. I mean.. nothing happened you know? The main idea was cool, just random things on alone on fire with no correspondence, but they needed to add something to give it some more flare. or just dont make music videos for songs with no action. It just goes to show my earlier point.. their newest songs are more repetitive theyre the same thing all the way through, just like that music video.

They've definetely gained more structure. They're still recognizable, but their newer stuff is much more linear, you're right. Still, I enjoy it.
I did like their tour bus, however. Very nice. I could use one of those for road trips.
