DUSTIN WORLES

My buddy Deepak is going on the Gumball 3000 next year. The entry fee is about $70,000. He wants to buy a really crazy vehicle to take on the Gumball. He decided on a Lamborghini LM002. Almost as big as a Hummer H1and almost as ugly, the LM is a badass truck! He found a red one in NC and we flew down there yesterday to check it out. It's a '98 with 14,000 miles on it. Here's a quick background on the LM:
"The LM002 was pretty much the final version of the Cheetah program to ever be sold to the public. The LM003 and LM004 being experiments with various engines that were eventually abandoned.
Only 301 of these LM002 monster machines were built. The last 60 of the series were called LM/American and was introduced at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show. The LM/American had special baging, stripes, upgraded interior, group effects, chrome front and rear bumpers and MSW / OZ Racing alloy wheels."
One of the techs from Lamborghini Carolinas picked us up from the airport in the LM. I've seen LMs before. Seeing it in person, this thing is just so...bulky. It's really hard to describe. It's unlike anything else on the road today.

Deepak drove the LM from the airport to the dealership. It's a manual and it's not exactly easy to drive smoothly. I rode in the back and it wasn't very comfortable. There's no bench seat in the back. There's only 2 seperate seats just like in the H1. The inside was covered in black leather and had wood trim and the radio was built into the ceiling. It had buttons everywhere and luckily they all worked except for the door locks.

We popped the hood to see the motor. It's powered by a Countach motor.

There's only one company who makes tires for it now and it's Pirelli. They cost about $400 each.

Deepak wanted to look under the LM to see if there were any leaks but the lifts at the dealership couldn't lift it. We had to drive to an old repair shop down the street to look under it. The LM is very solid underneath with skid plates covering most of the undercarriage. We found a brake leak. Unfortunately the dealership couldn't fix it without ordering special parts. We ended up leaving the truck and renting a car and driving home. As soon as it's fixed, we will fly down and drive it back. Hopefully it will survive the drive home!

While at the dealership, a brand new Gallardo SE arrived off a truck. This thing is my new dream car. Only 250 of these special models will be made. I love the two-tone paint scheme and the orange trimmed interior.
