So I'm one my way home tonight, and I come up behind this Chevy II at the 4-way stop. About a 65, 66 model I guess. So he takes off, pretty normal I guess, and I pull off behind him after a couple of secs after. Well, I get closer to him, I speeded up a little, cause I wanted to check it out a little more, it was a pretty sweet looking car: nice red paint, chrome diff cover, new exhaust etc. Well , as I get closer it sounds like he picks it up a notch, so I'm like "Okay let's go". But of course there's traffic, so we have to slow down quick.

Well everybody but us turns off a little ways up the road. I'm waiting for it this time, and sure enough I hear him pick it up again, just a little at first, then some more. So I get on it, it spools up and I roast through 1st. Grab 2nd and it sounds like he's getting it too, but he's not pulling away, as a matter of fact I'm getting closer, so much so in fact that I ended up short shifting to 4th cause I thought he was out of it, but he was still sounded like he was getting on it. I ran it a little more, then backed off as he hit the brakes coming over a rise.

Not sure if he just wasn't running right or if it was just that slow, of maybe he was just playing around. But as far as I could tell, it was pretty much a kill. Especially since I had to short shift to 4th to keep from running over him.

it could have just been a smaller motor, but those things are the hotness. i have a buddy building a low 8 second nova 2

well, i cant speak for him, but i wouldnt really make a full attempt at a race when someone is behind me. because they would make the excuse that they were behind and werent fully into it. Then again, i wasnt there, and I dont know the circumstances. If he was trying, then nice job on the kill....

I agree with llegos...I have had so many people claim they weren't buried when you can tell they are from being behind them, the car tends to have an odd smell, and also will usually see the exhaust in the pipe change when thier car shifts really high.

Yeah, I think he was probably just horsing around, or either it wasn't running right. It did sound kinda off, like it was rich or something. Although it did smell like he was running racing fuel. One of those cars w/ a built engine should've walked me pretty good. My car is pretty quick, but my clutch slips over 14psi and it's hard to beat good old-fashioned V8 torque. Maybe I'll see him at the track sometime
