View Full Version : Mr. Clean Autodry
Hmmm, I was a bit skeptical about it. But my dad got it for $15 and let me say that it truely works. It really is a spotless wash even on windows and chrome trim and also saves you a lot of time and stress by drying. The only set back however is the somewhat expensive refils which you need both the filter (made by PuR) and the official soap (because dishwashing soap, etc. clogs it) which cost around $6 each.

Yep, I got the same results as you hoot. Gotta love using this on a black car!
What I do is once it dried out, I got and do a pass of final detail spray w/ microfiber towel to make it all nice :)
What exactly is it, and what does it do?

"Who is your daddy, and what does he do?"
you plug it the unit at the end of your hose. You put the special liquid soap in there. Spray on the soap. If needed, use a wash mit and wash the car. Then set the unit on rinse, normal water comes out, washes the soap away.
Then set it on dry, and it will give you spot free/filtered water, much like what is found at car washes (though i dont know if they even take care of their filters etc), and just rinse the car w/ it.
Supposedly, polymers in the soap help the water bead and run off the car and stuff, and well..it does work!

Thanks, I can imagine how very well that would work on a black car...
Who cares about white cars though.

my only question is this: Does it leave the car spotless AND shiny or is the end result just spotless with a dullness to it? If it looks as if you hand dried it, I'm buying 1 of these.
It looks shiny, although I do usually end up waxing it anyways.

I bought 1 tonight. I hope it's worth it. I haven't heard any bad things about them yet. Lots of good things from a lot of people. The worst thing I have heard is that you have to use their soap and replace the filter a lot.

In my experience, it leaves the windows w/ a film on it. Regardless, after it's dried out, I take my microfiber towel and spray some Meguiar's Final Detail (sold by the gallon at pro paint shops only), and voila! bling bling bling!

I picked up a 2 pack of filters at Wal-Mart for less than $5 I think it was.
I even thought about using just filtered water to fill a bucket with the wash of my choice in it. Wash the car, then rinse with filtered water. Anyone tried that? Or do you HAVE to use the Mr. Clean soap?
I'll play around with my parents' new car that they're getting tomorrow. :thumb:

LOL! $16 + filters? It's not so bad. Sell the bimmer, get a Ford Festiva, then you can always keep it clean and spot-free.

Hmmm, I may have to try this. Since the addition of the black paint to the already yellow car I have been quite spastic in the cleaning department. When I wash & dry by myself it takes too long and I end up getting spots. Maybe this Mr. Clean guy can help me with my problem!!
I 100% guarentee you it will work:thumbs:.

but you gotta change the cartridge after like 3 uses
honest to god, i did like 2-3 washes with this thing, i had spots like there was no tomorrow. so i returned mine, and got a new one. it worked a lot better. i like it. but i end up hand washing my car and waxing it. a good 6 hours of detailing on hte weekends.

Why don't you wax it after the Autodry? Why hand wash if you have one? No point. I just Autodryed mine and put a coat of wax on before winter.

When you get your WRX? So I guess you're never going to start using this stuff?

Spray it off with the high pressure spray setting and use the soap as you normally would with a sponge or whatever.
The autodry sucks in colder weather and it doesn't work if the sun isn't out. The water has to evaporate. I supposed you could drive or blow it off with air. It won't spot up, the water will just stand on the car.

it may work but i doubt its as good as a good hard scrub
Bleh. I am done with my Autodry. First off, you can buy the starter kit for $15 which has the gun, soap, and filter. Once those are shot, you need to buy refils of soap and filters...$5 each. Ridiculous:lol:. I got these Glosser wipes that are pretty sweet. They clean and slightly wax.

the auto dry sucks at cleaning the slightest lil marks.. i wash my car by hand first and then once im done i use the mr clean auto dry to make it dry nice and leave it with the water repellent coat.. leaves it nice and shiny...
