This actually happened several months ago (back when I had the red '04 RSX ), but I feel we should share.
My mom's car, as some of you may know, is a bone-stock 2000 Acura 3.2TL. No Type S, since they didn't come out with those yet. Just a stock 3.2L V6 with a really slow-shifting 5-spd auto.
My friend's Maxima, as Sonnick talks about in his "kill" thread is a 1998 SE. Mods (at the time) were an air filter element (which supposedly provides more power than a full intake system) and full Warpspeed Y-Pipe and cat-back exhaust system.
We were on the Long Island Expressway service road, following some of our Deer Park Ave. buddies. Me (in the TL) and the Maxima were cruising beside each other, until the two cars in front of us (auto Mustang and '05 RSX-S, I believe) take off and race. So, with open road in front of us now, we decide to go at it.
Now, usually when we race these cars against each other, the Maxima gets ahead in an instant because the TL has shitty throttle response and it takes FOREVER for the transmission to "kick down." And because of this, my friend always brags that his car is waaaay faster than the TL, and that the TL is nothing more than a slow family car. I think he just says this so that he can at least have a car that's faster than me (since my RSX smooooked his ass every time we raced).
But since we were going from a roll, I decided to shift into "Sport Shift" mode and downshift, letting the car sit in a low gear before we gunned it at the same time. I switched back into automatic once we floored it (since the SportShift really does jack shit, only helps getting the revs up on the roll), and I swear to you, the cars were side by side and NO ONE was pulling on each other .... up until the TL hit around the middle of 4th gear, and the TL started to PULL on the Maxima. Me and my passenger were jumping up and down in laughter because .. the little TL that could, beat the modded-up Maxima.
